Tiling Vs Cement Screed

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Does anyone know if hacking off the wall tiles and floor tiles of kitchen and then not replacing it with tiles. Instead, cement screed the entire kitchen wall and floor, will it be more expensive than retiling?

Tks

:D

It won't be more expensive than tiling cos u already save some by not buying the tiles.

Does the lack of tiles pose a negative impact on the valuation of the property?

I'm inclined to think so because the valuer who assessed our place asked about the tiles we used for the home.

Logically speaking, yes.

But...

I remember i asked one of the contractors before, they say there is very little difference in cost because they have to smooth out the walls etc...is that true? I don't want contractors to smoke us to rip us off...hence the question.

anyway has experience to verify this? Or contractors free to comment? I understand this is your bread and butter but need some objective costing too..

Thanks much

I am not really sure. decor is basically a personal taste imo.. plus.. cement screeding is really dependent on personal tastes.. we wanted to do that too.. but then we opt for cement screed look-alike tiles instead..

at least now when we are selling i think buyers got one less thing to complain about no tiles.. lol..

anyway, i'm just asking out of curiousity too.

Laying of tiles, 1 cost. Buying of tiles, another cost. Grouting, still additional cost. Lastly maybe acid wash, still need to pay. So all these cost vs just using cement to smooth out the wall.

OIC. That sounds very interesting! If that will mean savings then yah why not? Sounds like a huge savings.
