dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2010 (edited) recieved a message with regards to the following...: "Correct me if I am wrong. You seem to change your TV orientation to your dining area, different from your 2D drawing. Possible to show the end result of your Common and MBR toilets and the bedrooms? Is it really cramp when doing a L shaped kitchen cabinet as I notice you are doing a gallery kitchen in a long kitchen layout? Sorry for asking so many questions as I had headache designing my new home layout which is exactly the same layout." wow very sharp indeed! Yes I have change the orientation of my TV. 2 main considerations 1.do not want to squeeze in my dining area in the main living room area i.e. main living room simply for relaxing and to slack around... 2. desire to create a balcony area..necessity to have one space near to the windows..if i were to have it near the main door, the balcony will seem more like a service balcony. As for the L shaped kitchen, nope it is not exactly that uncomfortable. I used Ikea's recommendation as the general guidelines..e.g. a comfortable working space is at least 1.2metres from the next cabinet..mine is more than that. From the picture it may not be apparent..the main entrance to my kitchen is offset...i.e. the start of my L-shaped is offset with respect to the start of the oven cabinets. This is to make moving in/out bigger and less restrictive. Yes it is still smaller if compared to the huge kitchen, but I feel the final effect (after clearing my clothes etc..), the space is fully optimised..not forgetting that I actually have a playground and children's small table along the other side of the wall (opposite my dining table) As for the pictures of my MBR and bedrooms..will post up soon..haven't got the chance to take photos, things are too messy to be taken now...kids are sleeping, study room looks like storeroom.... dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2010 Hi Dugong, Your house looks bright and cheery. Just the way you wanted it to be. My hubby also into the bright and cheery theme because we have a growing son. For me, I more subdued...Hahah...So there are some attempts to brighten the house with colors. E.g balcony and study in lime green. Was in shock when I saw the effect. Tried to tame it down while still retaining my hubby's wish for a cheery house. Looks like you had to move in before your capentry is completed. No worries, post us another update when your house is picture perfect when you have fully settled in. haha yeah was so stressed up for the last one month...just imagine wearing the same set of clothes cause the rest of the clothes are in boxes, my son keeps asking where are his toys. I got to live with heaps of boxes and things in plastic bags for a good 1 month! it was terrible. the house is perpetually dirty, forever things are left undone.. To add on, new environment, new posting for my job, and expecting a third baby..so glad I am settling down at last...
dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2010 ok let me share one of the main problem with this design. I believe the main reason is that there is no exact dimensions provided for the carpentry work esp on the design challenges with regards to the rounded edges. Problem: Notice the gap (around 0.5cm). Common problem with most of my cabinet doors. **** disgusting cause lizards and cockroaches can slip in! Solution: a rubbery backing.. End result: @#$% still slight gap..poor workmanship? anyway i didn't bother to ask the carpenter to re-do, too tired. but there were some that he does it perfectly.. Mickey M 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2010 Nice cabinet door and drawer design... all rounded edges, ideal for home with young kids... The edges must be rounded for retro theme. An important element.

Hard to comment on this but I think the workmanship can be better? But I think a 0.5cm gap is reasonable/acceptable for such designs. From what I know abt retro designs for cabinets/cupboards, usually between 2 doors, there should be a partition. So when the 2 doors are closed, u won't see the gap. But of cos, from the side, it doesn't look so nice.

dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 This is my kids' room, we have a simple bookshelf and a bunkbed. The only built in are the cabinets Looking into their room from the living room Notice the aircon above the door? All my aircons are above the doors, it is the least obstructive for the whole finish and design layout. The connecting "door" (actually just a hole...) that links to the masterbedroom
dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) Let me share about the aircon trunking. To be frank, we have never discussed the layout of our aircon trunking with our contractor..the trunking from masterbed room aircon ledge into the kids' room prevents the door from opening fully.... And now have to live with a door stopper on the floor itself...bad design, something that we should avoid This is a neater design for door stopper...nice! Eh...if you take a closer look, there is a huge gap in my parquet which the contractor tries to fill it up.... Edited April 24, 2010 by dugong6
dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 Connecting "door" to masterbed room... These are the only cabinets I have.. Closer look?
dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) Let's revisit some of the past ID drawings Similarly This is looking into the masterbed room from the living room..Eh..my lights were too bright...5W x 15 = 75W..I have since taken out 5 bulbs.. my carpenter fabricated a VERY big hole...which I have no idea what to put... As can be seen earlier, we got it sorted out by having sliding doors instead...left a nice hole for the lamp.. Eh...a closeup of my wallpaper....i realised wallpaper works wonder to bring out themes! dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 We have re-designed the platform to include built-in floor cabinets..I know there's a shop that specialised in this..but I reckoned it will be **** expensive...here's another way to have it...eh..rather crude..hahahaha but marvelous storage space! I have a total of 9 cabinets...measuring L0.6 x B0.6 x H0.3 metres Finally let's take a closer look at our aircon ledge.. a thin plank of wood is used to make a false wall... The aircon switch is hidden behind a column of the false column Looking down along the false column...Hm....my mum keeps insisting this is ugly and unprofessional and wants us to extend the floor cornices (not too sure how to describe) to cover up the gap..what are your views?..I was thinking to forget it..very tired of all the cleaning
dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 as for masterbed room toilet, nothing much to complain about...i simply love that mirror effect cabinet from IKEA! Accessories view See the cabinet it reflects the mosiac wall! I simply love the way the toilet and sink fit under the cabinet...neat! Bathtub is small, but the kids can still have fun... Must admit the hanger wall is too narrow even to hang a proper hanger! but good enough for clothings without hangers!
dugong6 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2010 Here is my common toilet... Initially thought the basin would be a hindrance...now it seems all right and definitely necessary! Eh...this is just to 'show off' a 70s bathroom lamp..had one identical one that is blue in colour for the masterbed room toilet...donated by one of the contractor's customers...hehe The hanger space again...narrow but at least the water does not wet the clothings! notice the zig zag mirror I have...I thought it adds abit of retro feel.. The only thing that I am still scratching my head is to place the bathroom accessories...still uses the common toilet for daily usage..and then the pails and little basins that we use to wash stuff...how to place them!?
