atlantis2267 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 Is it possible to tap of a light switch point for an additional power (3-pin) socket?
kruncho 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2010 Unlikely, most light switches have only 2 wires and power switches need 3.
atlantis2267 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 You are right. The light switch is just to close the live wire ; so no neutral and no earth wires inside.
Warrior88 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 No, you can't tap light switch point for 3-pin socket. The current use is different. Your circuit breaker will trip. Cheers bro So, I suppose, we change power point to lighting point, just insulated the neutral wire ?
lorddraco 1 Report post Posted January 12, 2010 No, you don't do that, as the lighting point needs the neutral and earthing wire as well. Best is to tap lighting point from lighting point and 3pin socket point from 3 pin socekt point. As the circuit loop is different. The circuit breaker used is also different. Hope this helps Cheers bro plus lighting point do not have earth point and 3-pin requires it.
ahwong 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2010 (edited) Is it possible to tap of a light switch point for an additional power (3-pin) socket? I am doing this all the time.. not sure why so many people say can not... You can also have earth wire, in additional to live and neutral... But one thing for sure, the current is max 5-6 A, use for low load devices like lights etc, otherwise it may trip... but still safe though..
