Hi eveyone,

did anyone of you happen to do the kitchen tempered glass backsplash with EI?

How much are u guys quoted ?

We are currently in the process of finalising the ID but we find EI has quoted the price of the backslash much higher than other ID.

Any views on this?

Thanks.

Hi, I do agree that EI's quotation for the backslash is a bit on the higher side. My stainless steel backing already costs $450. But overall, the price is still ok.

Hi Air, you are right. 250 for the hob area and 450 for 13ft. Pretty ex compared to what some of the forummers had. Think theirs only 200 for the whole thing :dancingqueen: But no choice. Easier to wipe and maintain.

Glass one should be more expensive than stainless steel if it is tempered glass. It is important to note the thickness of the tempered glass used for the cooking area too. I beleive all tempered glass has a "tempered glass" sign along the side of the glass panel.

My friend had changed her "tempered glass" backsplash twice within 6 months due to cracks. The contractor insisted it is tempered glass the first time it cracked but the glass were shattered all over the place when it happened, then the contractor changed it and my friend was told it is tempered glass again. The second time when it happened, the glass did not shattered but there is a big crack line. Both occassions when it happened, she is only doing normal cooking.

Nope, glass is more expensive.

I hear glass is usually expensive due to the labour and risks they have to take when delivering, as it breaks easily and care is also needed to be taken when delivering.

More than 1 month ago, we were looking for an ID. After reading so many good comments on Kelvin from GPlan, I had asked for his contact number.

Here's some updates on my search for an ID.

Right after I got Kelvin's number, I gave him a call. I was lucky, he picked up the phone, as I understand that he was a busy man. He rejected us out right, but I asked him to meet up with us first then see how. So, he agreed.

So, we met and immediately, we know we have rapport. Even went to our new house to take a look..etc..

After that, he said that he was very interested in doing this job, and said that he would give us a quotation.

While waiting, we decided to also contact another ID who has also been receiving very good comments and feedback from home owners in this renotalk forum too. He's Benedict from Earnest Interior.

So, same thing, we called him, and he rejected us out right because of busy schedule. He was going to recommend his colleage Jonathan who also had a lot of good comments from forumers. But we thick skin again, and asked Benedict to meet us first and then see how. Same thing, we also have very good rapport with Benedict. One difference though is, Benedict listens to our ideas and make a number of very good suggestions. So, after 2-3 hours of talking to Benedict, he said he'll also give us the quotation.

After meeting the 2 well recommended IDs, all we could do was to wait for quotations.

Finally, it was due date for Kelvin to send us the quotation. But unfortunately, we did not hear from him. So, got to call him a few times just to remind him after the due date. He said he sent liao, and said he'll double check. After a few more days, still no news. Called him again, he said he sent liao.. and said got problems with his laptop...bla bla bla..

Finally, we offered to go to his office to get the quotation. So, we drove all the way there to get it from him. Good news, we had the quotation. But we were left with it to try to understand it.

Then comes the time for Benedict to send us the quotation. He was right on schedule. Though he was also very busy, he set a meeting time with us to go through the quotation line by line!! And along the way, shared with us briefly what he has in mind for the house. We exchanged ideas, and Benedict promised us to give us a revised quotation. Once again, Benedict was right on schedule in providing us the revised quotation. And we go through the amended items line by line. Then we need the 3rd quotation after more discussions on the design.

In all, we spent at least 8 hours with Benedict to discuss our requirements, the quotation, the design..etc.. And we haven't even signed contract with him.

On the other hand, we only spent less than 2 hours with Kelvin. 4 days after we had quotation from Kelvin, he called us instead. :-) He asked us for feedback on the quotation and said that he has time for us now. We managed to push the decision to 2 days later. And this time, Kelvin call us right on time 2 days later.

Finally, the decision time comes. We thought that since we've already spent alot of time with Benedict and Benedict has also spent alot of time with us, and that Benedict has really given us a lot of very good suggestions to help us save cost and yet about to make it a hotel-like house, we decided to have Benedict to be our ID.

Hurray! Hurray! Finally, we are moving on.
