Re-installing Curtain Tracks (damaged Walls?)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

just a nagging worry....am going to reinstall the curtain tracks at my home.

Never did it before...will it leave many unsightly holes?

How do i DIY to plaster back the holes?

Has anyone done this & how is the end result?

Hope to have some advice, thnks!

Items you need:

Wall Putty

metal scraper

Hand drill

wall plugs

screwdriver

claw hammer

Paint (same colour as the wall in which the track is installed.

You will need to first unscrew the old track from wall. Once removed, you should see holes with wall plugs in them.

You will need to remove the old wall plug. What I normally do is use a hand drill and slowly drill the wall plug out. Slowly as the wall plugs may fly out and cause injury if you are not careful. I'm not sure if this is the correct method, but it works for me. The other method is to screw in a screw into the wall plug partially. Then use a claw hammer to remove the plug with the screw still on it. I do not really use this method as there are chance you may damage adjacent walls. Plus they are more time consuming and requires more effort.

After that, use the wall putty and metal scraper to fill the hole. Use the scraper to smoothen the hole. Once you are happy with the result, wait for a few hours for the putty to dry and set. After that, paint that part of the wall. If properly done, the final outcome will be as if the wall was not previously drilled.

You have finished repairing the wall. Now you can go ahead and install the new track.
