tracy 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 hi im very new here and i need some help regarding some renovation works issue. im planning to have a renovation for my house and i hope to get some advice. what is the difference between a interior designer and a contractor? i have a few Interior designers and one contractor in mind. but i am not sure will there be difference in their workmanship? i prefer to get the contractor as the service is better but im not sure what is the diff between both. garion 1 Report post Posted December 28, 2009 hi, i think the difference between contractors and interior designers is getting smaller.... interior designers basically help to advise the design of your house and give you the computer drawing.... accompany you to buy the furnishing.... help you coordinate with the various contractors performing different works, tiling, electrical, plumbing, carpentry etc... but they do not perform the actual renovation... they sub-contract to individual contractors and hence their costs is more expensive.... but it is worth the money if you can get a responsible ID as they act as a single point of contact all reno issues.... much easier to manage.... contractors does the actual job of renovating your house.... but they do not do designs and at best can only give simple ideas.... you have to tell them in detail what you want so that they can do it for you...
