oraihin 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2009 I'm looking for a resale unit and chance upon one which I like a lot. However, the ceiling in the kitchen and toilet has extensive peeling paint but no water stains. However, the peeling is not so servere till the concrete is revealed. http://oraihin.dotphoto.com/CPViewAlbum.as...7201&Page=1 According to the agent, the kitchen was last painted 3 yrs ago and I am wondering if these are initial signs of water seepage. Or is it just high humidity in the kitchen/toilets which can be rectified with better ventilation and a new paintjob... Any advice?
waileong 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2009 Simple. The waterproofing of the ceiling needs to be replaced. And it's a cost to be shared with the upstairs neighbour.

oraihin 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2009 correct term is called spalling concrete Actually, the concrete is still well intact, no visible spalling yet. Only paint peeling is observed and the ceiling looks dry and free of stains.

Just a case of poor preparation before painting that resulted in the peeling of the paint coat.
oraihin 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2009 There is nothing wrong with the ceiling. Just a case of poor preparation before painting that resulted in the peeling of the paint coat. I have been receiving conflicting opinions from interior designers as well. Some dared not guarantee that the paintjob will last. Appreciate more comments from anyone. The unit cost $600+k and it wil be really heartpain if the paint peeling requires extensive works in the upstairs neighbour's house.
