Plastering Of Ceiling Question

Recommended Posts

I read in the HDB renovation guide that plastering of ceilings is not allowed.

On the other hand I have seen falts where the previosly lousy looking ceiling has been plastred.

Does anyone know whats going on here?

Here:

OpenDocument

it sais:

Examples of Renovation Works Not Allowed:

Plastering of ceilings.

Indeed quite interesting clause, who will apply permit to do "ceiling plastering"? False ceiling is more cost effectiveness than making ceiling uneven than do a plastering. The ceiling painting itself already very tiring.

Now I know why all walls in the flat I bought look smooth while the ceiling looks rough.

The renovation guide shows where have to apply and where not.

Since the ceiling is not mentioned in the main part I think everyone just assumes: no need to apply permit because its nothing much.

Plastering is not allow for HDB ceiling, but you can go for skimming.

Skimming is a applying a very thin layer of finishes on to the ceiling to make it more even.

but the existing paint must be remove before application.

actually why is it not allowed huh ? curious to know also. because planning to do for upcoming flat.

i recheck my old quotation, it did say plastering of ceiling- two bedrooms ( but we dunno if the contractor then did apply permit or not )

how to tell if it is plastering or skimming ?

the concern is what will happen when HDB come check the flat after we submit the resale docs.

Plastering consist of cement, sand and water. The thickness of plater is 5 mm or more.

Skimming consist only powder mix with water and is like a flour mix. The thickness is not more than 2mm.

The weight of a plaster is much more heavy than skim coat, if not done correctly, the plaster will fall off from the ceiling.
