Second Time Lucky

Recommended Posts

This reno thing is actually very nerve wrecking. We wanted to coordinate all on our own at first but we found the house too late and we had to wait 12 weeks for 1st appointment. In the end, only got the keys 2 weeks ago instead of in October (if HDB had given us 5 weeks waiting time to 1st appt). So very limited time to do planning. Planned to move in by end of the year but I think will have to drag to January.

The search for the house began in May and we did consider famous contractors in RT like Ah Soon, Mr Yeak and Jason. But as the day to my key collection drew near, these people became extremely busy.

I hope my reno will be as smooth sailing as some of yours :) Thank you for welcoming me to RT also.

Ya it sounds really rush with the few weeks left before the end of year. It is better to set your target move in date Jan so that you get to enjoy the process and not being too stressed out by the tight schedule to rush things thru... :)

Hi hourstyle, yup intend to give the contractor a bit more time. Afraid if I rush him then turnout won't be so good.

Wao, the flooring looks great. Think with a simple polish it'll look fantastic.

For me, I'll prefer to keep everything kitchen related in the kitchen. And since I like to keep the counter clear of stuff, I need more cabinets to keep electronics like rice cooker, toaster etc. For kitchen I think the amount of cabinets u need is in relation to how much u cook. The more u cook, the more space u'll need to keep stuff. More so if you bake; u'll need space to keep ur baking aids and lots of pantry space! :P

If u don't cook much, it'll be better not to extend the cabinets to a L shape. If you need space in future, can always purchase a standalone cabinet/island for extra storage. :)

What I did was to list down everything that I have/will have in my kitchen, and decide where I wana keep them while planning my kitchen cabinets. That way, u'll be able to customise ur kitchen to suit your needs. :)

Angel, thank you for the tip. We're gonna have a standalone oven so must tell the contractor about it. I don't want it to take up space on the counter top.

Looks big yeah. I think because there's nothing yet. Hehe. But this is one of the smaller EAs that I have viewed. Kitchen and toilet have to go. If you guys noticed, the common toilet does not even have a ventilation window. I wonder how they kept the mold at bay. We're gonna hack a window there.

Hope it helps. :) Hehe, counter top space is very precious. :P Will you be doing a full height cabinet with a space to keep the standalone oven then?

Hello Chinchye,

It's because that window is going to be at my service balcony. Originally there are 2 doors but previous owner sealed up one without making room for a ventilation window.

Reno permit is still pending (takes a bit longer than usual cos we have some demolition works which need engineer's stamp) and the wait is infuriating. Hopefully can start by next week.

Just let me update a little.

Reno co which we have engaged is B/a/y/o/u Interiors. Our quotation includes EF hob and hood (very transparent - price listed and they indicated at the side FOC).

The hood they are giving FOC. Exactly the same as the one in our previous house.

But we might want to top up a bit to change it to this

And the FOC hob

Some of the stuff that we have bought.

LG Fridge in silver/ steel

Would love the one with the flowers but it's a few hundred dollars more

Electrolux washing machine

4175130625_be9c401cfe.jpg

Toshiba 42" but I don't remember which series (cos we bought this a few months back)

Seriously didn't really research on these items. They are bought on impulse. Our bad!

Right now we are considering the heater and dryer from Citygas due to its cost-saving features.

Anyone using them? Any comments?
