Recommendation For A/v Receiver And 5.1 Speakers

Recommended Posts

Deftech pro60 good for music or not? I was actually deciding between this and KHT5005.2 before your post but very tempted to get the 5005.

KEC got sell Marantz amp? Any specific model to recommend for either pro60 or 5005?

If say Yamaha, does RX-V665 pair well with KEF KHT3005SE or you recommend something better?

If you want for music, get Monitor Radius HD or MS genie. Both are good for music, especially MA (Monitor Audio)

KEC do sell Marantz amp but do audition this combination.

As for your KEF3005, try to audition with both Onkyo 707/807 or yamaha 1065 & decide from there.

Cheers

Hi vicenzo70

I am interested to get an amplifier and a decent sound system.

I am not so keen to get the 5.1 speakers because I would not have space to put the rear speakers. I would be using it for music/movie/games (general usage)

What combination would you suggest? Or, should i get a soundbar instead?

Hopefully the whole set is less than 1.5k or max is 2k.

Hi vicenzo70

U mention "forget about morel, way too expensive"....what's ur view on the sound though?

The cost is $2500+ for the MT-1, including installation and cabling, bot yet bargained....:)

The MT-2 is higher though,mid $3K....

Which 5.1 models from Monitor Radius HD range would you recommend? The left and right speakers for my bedroom must not be more than 4 inches wide.

These Onkyo and Yamaha models cost about how much?

GP Acoustics at Adelphi. If you know of other places selling KEF please let me know also.

Hi Sure

The last time I did my auditioning and shopping was about 2-3 years back. Spent most of my time in Adelphi and AVone in Paya Lebar then...:)

It took me a couple of months before I decided on the Yamaha AV 2600/Heco Front Standing/Castle Sub and rear from AVone....lol

but this time round I am moving into a condo, thus I am interested in a satellite system...

Lets enjoy this "journey"....:)

Hi

If space is a premium, get a satelitte speakers system. U need to audition them. Plenty of shops at Adelphi.

As for soundbars, I'm very bias against their technology. There you go.

Cheers

Bro

Ive auditioned Morel MT-1 & 2 & at these prices theyre selling, you might as well go for the cheaper yamaha nsp speakers which is about $900.

Btw, Morel MT-1 & 2 are 6 ohm impedance. The good thing is, you dont need a powerful receiver to power it. For me, I like it dynamic, heavy &

detailed audio,so i would go for 8ohm speakers that can handle more power.

Again, iif Morel has the chio factor & you liked the sound & agree with the price, dont let me stop you. Im just expressing an opinion here.

Cheers

Take your pick. there's the R45HD & the R90HD. Both are 8ohms speakers though the R90 can handle double the power of the R45 which makes it very suitable for the living room. As for the sub, get the SVS or Velodyne. You wont regret it & im even willing to stake my name on it.

The receivers Ive mentioned are above S$1k (since Dec2009). prices may have dropped a bit so do check with the shops.

Cheers

Oh I thought you were recommending Monitor Audio for my bedroom (emphasis on music) and not living room and so didn't consider because of the width problem I mentioned for my bedroom.

Anyway, since I need to get all my stuffs ready asap and won't have time later for shopping, I went with my earlier decisions and bought the following stuffs liao.

Living room: KEF KHT3005SE 5.1 speakers with Yamaha RX-V1065 av receiver.

Bedroom: KEF KHT5005.2 5.1 speakers with Marantz SR6004 av receiver.

Hope these are ok.

Hi GaaraOfTheSand,

I will be getting kef3005se soon too. So far I will be getting 3 sets together with 2 other forumers. Let me know if you wanna join in and nego for better deal. We probably will get it next weekend, let me know asap. Check your PM.

Any other wanna join in just give me a PM soon.

Yo Bros,

I also need advice for my first HTS setup too (70% movie: 30% music):)

Based on the standard speakers placement

4391004837_5b0d2077f0_m.jpg

I drafted out the setup for my house

4391004535_1280881b3f_m.jpg

The living rm dimension: Width 4.3m, Length 4.5m, Height 2.6m.

Rear speakers will be mounted near ceiling and front speakers will be at around ear level. There is a 0.6m partition between my living and dining room.

Selected equipments:

Speakers & Sub Woofer: KEF3005SE (5.1) (No plans to upgrade speakers in future)

Amplifier: DENON AVR1610/1910/2310

TV: FULL HD Panasonic VIERA TH50PY800H

Source: popcorn a200

Speaker Cables: Cord cambana for front speakers

Concerns:

Many claims that Denon 1910, 2310 have better audio processing over 1610. When I compared the 3 AVRs (http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/257.asp?compareitem=5011&compareitem=4858&compareitem=4865&imageField.x=56&imageField.y=18) many features in 1910 and 2310 are not required by me. I am more concern on what they claimed if the audio processing & POWER of 1610 is inferior for kef3005se speakers.

My Questions:

1) Any advice on my setup

2) Denon 1610 ($499, 75W) good enough for kef3005se? or should i get 1910 ($699, 90W) or 2310 ($1160, 105W) instead due to their power?

Thanks in advance! Smiley

haha sasay1980, you're from xtremeplace forum? Anyway saw your post too late... i've paid for my speakers yesterday already... thanks for the offer anyway. We should have a mass order forum here.

I shortlisted denon 2310 too for my room but finally got Marantz 6004 instead because most pp claimed that Marantz is better for music. Anway i'm not even a novice yet, but thought the rated output for 1910 and 1610 are 90w and 75w respectively which might not maximise the potential for 3005SE (power handling of 100w). Maybe vicenzo70 the guru has more insights.
