poor girl. Mickey is right.. your ID is suppose to liaise with your electrician.. but you still need to convey your needs...

Like if in the study, you need points for your computer, PSP, Wii, fan, standing lamp.. then you will need a certain number of points in the room otherwise you will be putting extensions all over the place... :)

*hugs* nvm nvm.. you can ask / complain anything here.. we will try to help when we can?

I do hope those people get OUT soon... :P

Ann, I hope that the folk who should have moved out ages ago move out asap and that everything proceeds smoothly for the reno.

I know you're rushing and things are tight, but I think it's good that you take time to plan the location of lights and power points based on your needs. I made the mistake of not planning when I had my present place renovated 8 years ago. I realised too late (after moving in) that I had extra power points in unnecessary places and too few in places where I needed them. Worse still is the lighting. My wife's biggest complaint about the place is that is too dark and she has a tough time seeing what she's eating or seeing herself when she's looking in the mirror in the bathroom.

So with the new place, we spent time planning and marking the spots (including labelling each spot clearly). Despite this, our electrician got some wrong. So I think your electrician's suggestion that everything is marked on the floor plan as well as the walls/ceilings AND for your ID to brief him is a good.

mm I did the same as Macbart too. I took a floorplan and I different highlighters for different points.. and did small markings on the floorplan, along with the distance away from the wall and pasted that on the wall of the house... and went through with the electrician on top of that... :)

Ok, there's still crap and my world is still not better.

I have to start renovation work next Monday, 21st Dec already. Cos I need to move in by the 15th of Jan. I am so worried about so many things.

Lighting plan - Due to time constraints, Johnny proposed to do this up prior to hacking. Fine with me but, today's Mon, he wants the electrician to come in by Thurs, and my electrician needs to see the electrical points 1-2 days in advance (cos he needs to see if its doable a not).

- we have not marked out the electrical points. Sure that will take only a couple of hours, but I do need some time to absorb the electrical plans.... now it looks like i dont.

- the 3D for my false ceiling is STILL not ready yet! I am so upset. :(

johnny knows I am rushing for this, so why is the 3D taking so long? surely he doesnt think I am going to approve the 3D at first glance right? he is not giving me time to react and absorb the false ceiling design.

the 1st and 2nd draft given to me was completely wrong. I wanted to hack the utility room but the 3D drawing did not reflect that and the false ceiling was in turn affected.

I feel like I am rushing into this. Like sinking into a deep dark hole. My electrician is asking me things like where am i putting my heater, my air con and etc etc... and I have no idea! Johnny didnt bring this up with me...

Electrician says need to have points and lighting marked on wall, floor plan and briefed verbally by ID to Electrician

ID says that's ridiculous - why so much work required.

So who's right????

I am afterall a first timer in renovation. I have no idea what I should be looking out for, what I should be planning for.

So why do I feel so alone in this when I hired an ID to guide me through this? :(

Am I misunderstanding johnny? Am I overly anxious? What's up????

sounds like your ID is a new bird or doesn't want to do his work. ID is supposed to generate the the 3-D drawings, electrical plan, lighting plan, elevation plan, the dimensions of each furniture, position of every fixture with dimensions included, laminate/wallpaper/paint colour plan, the water piping plan, aircon plan, electrical appliance plan.

if the ID can't do these, maybe the ID is actually a contractor charging ID rates.

i know IDs that do these things after customers sign up with them. that's why you pay them so much.

as for me, i already know what i want, and am prepared to make it happen. so i don't need an ID, i need workers with skills :)

What does cast and shadows due to fan blade mean?

Lets say if the below happens, will it be ok?

Picture3.png

Sorry for the eyesore of a "illustration"

not sure if you had a response to this but i sure didn't see one so.. :P

assuming you switch on the cove lights only (for ambient effect), the light will bounce off the ceiling in the direction of your floor or eyes. before it hits the floor or your eyes, the ceiling fan's blades will cut off light and you will see flickering of the lights. if you switch on the cove lights and the downlights at the same time, you will notice less flickering.

Someone asked me here "will I have a built-in oven", my answer is yes. The following are appliances I'll have:

- Rice cooker

- Small toaster

- Rice Cooker

- built in oven.

I wanted more counter space so that I can put all these appliances but at the same time I don't want it to be exposed if possible.

Johnny was very nice to take the initiative to propose a rough solution for me. That is, to hide these appliances in the full height cabinet. When I need to use them, then I can slide them out of the cupboard. I dunno what it'll EXACTLY be like but I know on Saturday! :D

Do you guys have any suggestion for me?

P.s.: I took a closer look and realised that the 3D drawing of the full height cabinet did not encompass the built in oven and the tempered glass backing is cut off half way. WTH??

most rice cookers emits steam so be careful when you use it. if your kitchen cabinet is above your rice cooker, there might be damage due to moisture

personally, i prefer not to have a built-in oven, but i guess it's up to you :P make sure you supply enough amps to the oven. it would be pointless if the house trips whenever you bake something.

BOUGHT A TV AT SITEX 2009!!

Model: 42" Full HD 1080p (42PFL5609/98)

Specs: http://www.consumer.philips.com/c/televisi...5609_98/prd/sg/

FOC: Wall bracket, installation, DVD player, HDMI cable

PRICE: $999 NETT

Cheap?? :)

yes it's cheap for a 42" full hd. i got a hd-ready plasma tv at 599 :P

Alright ppl! Wish me many luck.

This week will define my renovation plans.

I am meeting the seller to inspect the house this Wed (1 day before I get the keys!!), and I will be bringing Johnny to see the place together in hope to decide on lighting plans.

Since I am hacking the utility room, the permit needs 10 wrking days to be approved. -.-.

I need to move in by 15 JAN.

And there's this other little naggy detail about the current tenant. I hope they can go away for 2 weeks so that the renovation can go on smoothly without them around. :/

I hope and hope everything will be smooth.

i am hacking 90% of my walls in my home and my permit was approved on the 4th working day after it was submitted. please check your MyHDB page to check when your application was submitted. also call the HDB officer in charge to expedite the approval of the application too. since you are hacking the utility room, which i presume is made up of structural walls, you need a PE to certify that it is hackable. they cost about $500 or so.

Hi Ossify,

Thanks for your long reply. I appreciate it. I think I'll go with cove + fan. Yea, there'll be downlights as well.

As for the permit, thanks very much for the info! Yes, you are right, I went to MYHDB and found out that my permit was approved already! So quick! Love Singapore! hahaha Applied on friday, approved on monday. Steady right!

As for the rice cooker, I think I have to just isolate it la. The stupid steam will spoil a lot of things. :/

He's not a new bird for sure. Maybe he's really busy? I have no idea. :(

anyway thanks for the reply. I shall go demand it from him. Cos its true, how on earth will I know anything about Aircon plan and other things you mentioned!

*sigh

I remember a fan guy telling me to give at least 4ft clearance between the cove light and the edge of the fan blade, to minimize shadows.

If I am not wrong, this means that cove light can project up to 4ft effectively.

ARGH! The tenants!!! The Hooligan Family has not moved out I think. I will be going over to the flat today. Let's see what drama there will be.

I think the MBR tenant is up to something with the ex-owner. He told me to tell him when I am coming over. He will "wait" for me. I say, are you going anywhere? he said nope. Then I was like.... er.. ok...

I have the keys. So why I need to tell him prior to coming over? He want to help the ex-owner to hide the common room tenant?? Crazy.

Anyway, my reno permit is approved. I hope to start work asap but I think Johnny has already booked his tilers for X date, so no bringing forward.

I will share my OWNSELF drawn up lighting plan shortly.

What do you all think?

I think the toilet looks odd. Especially the common toilet. It should be a square... but it looks elongated here and I can't see the shower.....

MBR toilet: tiles look weird here. I chose very nice resort looking tiles with slight textures (too much texture = difficult to wash). I will take a photo of it the sample when I get home.

See my floor plan:

Toilet **** bloody small sia.

The 3D looks fine I guess. You're not going to have shower screens in your toilets?

Rem to keep the door and gate open when you go to the house tonight. not good for you to be shut in by yourselves. Are the agents going? Some neutral parties will be good.
