simonoei 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2008 I have visited my house and saw some pieces of parquets have nails on it.Those nails are hammered half way in( not fully nailed on to the parquet.)Is it normal to nail the parquet on the floor(the parquet varnish has not apply yet) I know this reply is too late for you. Anyway, for the forum pple still interested in this matter. Yes, nailing to the concrete is normal practise by the parquet installer. why? the reason is that your parquet is call long strip. any length that is more than 300mm long have to be nailed down. the reason is that they need to straighten the timber which are a bit bend. it is natural for the long timber strip to bend. hence nailing is required. now the question is ... why nail on top of the wood. the answer is .... they try to save money on the ply wood. If plywood is used as based before installing the parquet, they can nail it on the side of the wood. then you will not see the nail hole on the wood. if plywood is not used as the base, then installing the parquet must be nail at the top of the wood. hope this answer your question as to why nail on top of the wood and not on the side of the wood.
