Recommended Posts

hi all

i am now in the mids of finalizing on what brand to get for my PLASMA TV. It took me quite abit of time to decide whether LCD or PLASMA. With my budget of SGD 1500, i can only decide to go for a PLASMA since im looking for the 46'. Please share your experience on the brands that are you are using at home. All comments are welcomed.

Hi,

Its good that you've fixed your mind on a 46" which may help to narrow down the search,

although i thought your budget of abt $1500 can get a reasonable LCD for less (perhaps abt 40").

Personally, i'm using 40" LCD which i bought during the PC show in June (i paid < $1500)

The screen is big enough, so for me, not necessary to splurge on a bigger TV.

If i'm not wrong, i was told that Panasonic was the leader in Plasma. (not sure how true its is) :paint:

hi swift

initially i thought of buying LCD too. But with the upcoming LED coming up, im sure in 7 months time LED will be cheaper. So i decided to go with a cheaper Plasma then replaced it with LED later. I will move the plasma to the room then. hahaha. well i heard too tht Panasonic is gaining the market share for plasma. By the way, what is your model of LCD?

yup i too heard that Panasonic is e leader for plasma tv. in my opinion, if u r watching normal tv (as in ch5, ch8, cable etc) plasma will give better picture quality vs LCD. however if u r talking abt DVD/ blu-ray shows, then LCD will win.

for e record, i'm using a 47" HD-ready Philips LCD. reason? if i buy a full-HD (which means i have to pay more), i m not maximising its full potential as only HD5 is on HD at e moment. most importantly, e price i paid for is cheap for me (S$1499, bought 6 months ago)

hence, personally, i think that u should just go for an entry level HD-ready tv (regardless plasma/ LCD) then upgrade later lor :)

If you are getting a 46" TV, I strongly suggest getting Plasma. Bascially any TV (46" and above) is recommended to use plasma as it has a smooth, non-edgy look compare to LCD.

Most LCD is using 50 Hz (unless you're getting 100 or 200 Hz). But take note, higher Hz = higher price. Panasonic is indeed the leader in Plasma TV, and have you wonder why plasma is always use during F1 race in a big screen?

I'm using a 40" Samsung LED 6 series, got it for $2199 at Comex. Do consider what functions / areas you want on a TV rather than the size.

I'm using a Panasonic S10 42inch TV. Bought at GainCity for 1400. I use it to watch some SCV channels and the usual terrestrial channels. It's good stuff!
