strikingreality 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2011 I went to Jimmy, MGL, D'Zander, Mega and November 11.November 11 - no brick and mortar shop, but an outfit helmed by a very friendly couple who would actually visit you at your unit to show you the swatches/samples etc. However, as they have no actual shop and they are a mobile shop with their swatches, their variety tend to be lesser. However, Debbie and Jo are very good in recommending fabrics etc to match your design. Prices are decent as well. But they couldn't provide what we wanted, which is just too bad, i guess. D'Zander - Went to their shop. No daylight, hence cannot really see how the look of the fabric is like against daylight. The shop is rather small and helmed by 3 staff, hence we felt we didn't have any space to actually go through the fabrics without them intruding on us, or checking on us, which in a way is service, but because we are v specific on what we want, we felt it would be better if we were left to browse on our own. They kept showing us fabric and telling us "this is v nice, that is v nice...". Not to mention their quote is actually one of the highest, which to me was surprising, because there is an incentive for her to give me a good deal (not convenient to reveal why), but in fact their quote for wooden blinds is 30% higher than another company who is using the exact same supplier, and 80% higher than our lowest quote for wooden blind.Jimmy - efficient salespeople but not exactly the most friendly. Asked her for similar fabric, she showed us what she had, and then told us that's all we had. But in the end, we looked around and found other fabric which we like and within the same type of pattern/design which we told her we are looking for, but she CHOSE not to show us, which is a bit funny. Quote is reasonable. Good thing is that she left us to browse and look through everything on our own. Mega - Have a good selection of the type of fabrics we want, but prices isn't the best. More expensive than the rest. Uncle is friendly and gave us good advice on why we should just stick to the traditional curtains rather than the eyelet curtains/roman blinds etc. Not much impression on why we should go with him.MGL - was the last shop we visited. As we already had pictures of previous fabrics we've seen and quite like, we can show the salesperson (Ben) samples and he could bring out similar designs quite quickly, and even then, he left us on our own to go through the rest of the swatches in the shop, even through it is not really what we were looking for. He came back and checked on us now and then which we appreciate. Amazingly, his quote was the best of all the shops we have visited! Approx $1600 for all 4 rooms, including a set of wooden blinds. Very very reasonable. When we couldn't find the fabric we wanted for the living room, we actually showed him what we were looking for, and asked if he could check with his supplier! He very willingly agreed and as promised called us back the next working day to inform us of his findings!! Indeed the supplier had stock and we confirmed with him immediately!! Really really appreciate the extra mile he went for us to check with his supplier. Now I am waiting for my curtain installation! Will comment on workmanship etc after the installation! Synace 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2011 Finally, I've met up with the famous Mr Chew.Appointment is not hard to make, as long as it doesn't fall on weekends - that would have to be 1 month in advance according to him.1 day before appointment date, reminded him for the appointment in the following day and have requested him to try to come slightly earlier, He was not happy and replied he can only try his best.Arrived earlier than the agreed time on day of appointment, he is definitely more friendly in person than over the phone.Pretty fast in his measurements, not much advice given until I asked whether few particular windows should go with curtains or blinds, he suggested with his expertise & experience.Spoilt for choices of fabric, he was patient enough to show all what I was keen...but none is outstanding, just those common materials seen everywhere.Brought him to downstairs coffeeshop and bought him kopi while he was doing his calculation, he became more chatty to share with me his business and family.Quoted me $2,640 and quickly stated $2,600 is final price without any further discount, before I even opened my mouth. He said confidently that nobody else in Singapore is able to provide me better price...I just smiled at him and told him I will revert with my decision in few days time.He is the 5th curtain maker I've invited to come by for quotation and his price is the 2nd highest, though by not much.Anyway, price is just 1 of the deciding factors, always believe quality of materials, workmanships, services are equally important. So my assessment on Mr Chew base on my observations are:Price - 7/10Material - 6/10Workmanship - not sure but base on his description should worth a 7/10Service - 5/

Installation was very quick, the 2 men finished the installation within a hour and hung up the curtains v nicely for us. Workmanship of the curtains are quite good. very few loose threads. Blinds are of very high quality too. While installing they also taught us how to maintain the curtains and blinds. The only thing they can do better is actually clean up the dust etc after they have worked. But that's not really an issue for me because I can easily do that myself. But just to go the extra mile, it would be a good to have.

lingofox 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2011 Thought of posting our experience here to benefit pple like us who are doing renovations for our home sweet home...Like most of the people here, we were at a loss when we were scouting for curtains for our new house. Thanks to this forum, we short-listed a couple of contacts and intended to compare prices before signing. We first went to D'Zander (http://www.dzander.com.sg/)at Concorde Shopping Centre and met up with the lady boss, Doris. A very friendly and service-oriented lady that wasn't at all pushy. This was important to us as we prefer to work with people whom we are comfortable with. Based on our 3D designs, she made good recommendations that both my wife and myself liked. For the fabric we chose, we thought it was going to cost us a bomb but when she finally finished pressing the calculator, we were in for a pleasant surprise... It was very much within our original budget. Our curtains were really nicely done up... now we are going back to them to do upholstery for our sofa and bed. Simply pleasant experience for us and impeccable service from Doris and her team!
