Charles 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Yes, Pinklady, I have PM-ed her too.. bt I guess she is not active anymore... You can try staying at guangzhou shun de area. But beware, some of them display quality goods but might send you lousy goods. QC and shipping will be the most headache.

furnituresg 1 Report post Posted October 5, 2009 its definitely cheaper to buy from there...but do take note of a few things before deciding to purchase from there... 1) in the mall there, there are thousands of outlets there selling stuff 2) usually 1 outlets are more specialise in a certain type of items, eg some sell sofa, some only coffee table and console 3) get ready someone who can help you transport back the stuffs and able to unload the things and delivered to your house 4) the charges involve in transport 5) alot of them come to singapore in packing form, i.e box form..thus must have someone to be able to fix them up (do note it's not that easy to fix up some of the stuffs) not like ikea way of fixing, sometime i may take 2hr jus to fix up a tv cabinet or shoe cabinet jus some points to note

I really don't think it is worthwhile for an individual to go China and buy one set of furniture. Just too much hassle. I am in the trade and I wouldn't do it. Just be super careful and remember that cheap doesnt mean good and expensive doesnt mean safe.

TIA I think the best time to shop is when there is a furniture trade there (dont know which place). I got to know about when i was exploring about furnitures from China from a shop in Singapore. you will get to know a lot of manufacturers, distributors and retailers. If you look the catalog of most of the HDB furniture shops you will find that the catalog states PAN-STAR. Guess this should be a manufacturer or distributor there. Most of them incl S&C and other HDB furniture shops, IFC, IMM, Macpherson area showrooms etc have this catalog and hence the designs are the same in these shops across Singapore Furnituresg is right about his views. It also works out cheaper for shops for bulk & regular booking and shipping etc etc

TIA ive been to GZ few times..my view is its not worth the hassle...shipping is a big headache. and if u shop at the wholesale centers, you wil never get a good price for a single item purchase. the ones worth are the ones that you can self carry like lamps, art pieces, decorative items etc.
kaleidoscope 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2009 Hi everyone, Thank you for your opinions.. a different perspective is always important i feel for any decision. For shopping from GZ, I will arrange to send it to the freight forwarder's warehouse while I am there so I can oversee the entire thing... and since I know freight forwarders personally in SG who can liase with their rep/branch offices there, I don't think it will be a big problem. But I do understand that there is always a risk involved... And even if nothing works out, it will still be a good holiday Hope to soon make my own t-blog to record the process of my renovation and will need all your help again !!! jacob_mw2 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 To put in my 2 cents on the issue........ if one intends to go to Guangzhou, its better to shop for big ticket items like flooring, tiles, cabinets etc rather than a few pieces of furniture. Ofcourse, its best to have a local contact there to take you around to avoid being cheated. As for shipping back to SG, its not as expensive as one might think. Shipping cost for a container to SG is about $1400. It would be advisable to go in a group and do bulk purchasing and shipping for the best deal.
