My ID also did a wonderful job with 5-room HDB .... but I did a lot of research first .... I found it hard to find anyone who would 'highly recommend' their IDs, so I'm so glad to see that a few people would. I also highly recommend mine. You got to pick someone who is attentive to details, and willing to make changes, and good price. Doing your research with a few is the most important, and check out their past projects so you get a feel for their quality and wormanship.

I also found it helpful to make sure I could 'add' new clauses into their contract so speciify a handover date and the brands used of all products. That way, there was full aligned on both sides, and I had recourse to take legal action should something differ from the contract. Thankfully, my ID was a champion, and it came in under budget and delivered way above my expectations. Happy to share details if needed.

Yes absolutely true. Its very tiring going up and down meeting IDs or contractors just to make comparison on quotations and layouts.

The best part, was those with those similar layout and materials yet estimated with 15-20% price differences. And I simply hate those pushy sales guys. They are just getting on my nerves. Lol...despite of that, i sincerely have no idea how to say NO to their pushy sales.

But now, i kinda have a couple of ID in mind. One's a male the other a female. And by reading the above comments from all Reno shoppers, mostly recommended are females. Well, was it true that female IDs are reliable and good?

I need more feedbacks. Appreciate it. But then, the female id gave me a better impression than the male.. How?? Help me & hubby pls..

I understand the pain of comparing so many quotations. But sometimes, what you convey to the first ID is different from what you convey to the subsequent IDs, so end up everyone gives you different quotation and you think they are quoting the same job scope.

How to go around this? I'm facing the same problem.

Some ID or contractors can even give you a quotation based on floor plan alone. I find that absurd because everyone knows you need to visually see the unit to make an accurate quote.

And what's the difference between ID and contractor?

The SAFEST WAY is to get an ID through referrals (friends, family,) ..people who have used them before.

I have just gone through one myself, and thank god i had the wisdom to choose mine based this, and not just by cheapest price and/or talk.

Just want to share my experience. Since my hubby and I do not have any artistic talents, we manage to find a freelance ID to design our place. We asked him to design our master bedroom, a study room and the living room only. He charged us less than 1K. He came to our place to take the measurements and helped with the selection of materials.

We then engage a contractor to do up our place. The contractor told us that actually they are pretty good with doing the all the carpentry since they do it on a daily basis. It's just that they can't put the ideas into design - that's why they are not designers! :) They did give some pretty good ideas as well. We wanted to put some beams with pebbles at the entrance but they highlight that it would rather dangerous since we have small kids. In fact, we saved quite a lot on our renovation since we went direct to the contractor.
