adidas78 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2009 Hi Forum Brothers and Sisters, Thank you for sharing your knowledge in this forum. My wife and I have been a regular reader for this forum and I must admit some of your comments was very helpful to us when we are talking to the renovator or ID. Today, we finally went for our HDB second appointment and obtained the key to our new home. Our new place is a 4 Room flat at Ang Mo Kio. We have been fortunate that we are able to purchase at a less than valuation price in June (my friend terms this period as adjustment, as prices of HDB flat has never fallen). But honestly speaking, our purchase price can almost get us an 5 room flat in Jurong area. Hopefully, it is worth it. Below is our floor plan.
adidas78 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2009 After exercising for OTP in June, we quickly got our copy of our new floor plan and started visiting IDs and renovators. My wife and I have actually talk to quite a number of IDs and renovators. We visited Expo twice, went to IMM, search the forum for popular renovators and ID, and approach them for quotation. As we are on a very constraint budget, we have to be careful on our requirement. However, most IDs firm, renovators are quotating us beyond our budget. Below are some of the firms that we have approach: 1. ***** (good designer, but beyond our budget 2. *** (the ID was quite new, and we are not too sure if he can do a good job) 3. Violet Interior 4. Chew Interior 5. Weiken 6. Taaxa (Good quality, but we can afford) 7. Pavillion Creation 8. Tau Interior (Kelvin is a nice chap but negotiation broke down between us) 9. Summer Design (never got back to us) 10. ID Note Design & Build (never got back to us) 11. U & B (Jason. Does he look like Phua Chu Kang?) and a few more which I cannot even remember... Pinklady 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2009 Hi Adidas welcome to RT! have you spoken to Naaman yet? by the way, your layout is very good and squarish, easy to plan. Tink i am the 1st to welcome u! haha
adidas78 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2009 And finally, after months of worries, and sleepless night, we decide to opt for Jason, U & B. Thanks to the power of internet, we get to know the standard of Jason's work and of course how he looks like. He is a very easy going person and his working style is very different from others renovators or ID that we met. And of course, most importantly, he is willing to work with us based on our budget. By the way, it was very difficult to meet up with Jason. He is always very busy and we actually have to make several phone calls to remind him to provide us with a quotation. The following are some of the pre-renovation pictures The house is actually quite a disater. Jason actually thought that the previous owner is Indian. They are Chinese by the way. Hopefully, Jason can use his magic wane and perform some miracles for us. Hacking should starts this friday or next monday. Hopefully, I can post more pictures by then. adidas78 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2009 By the way, anyone has a good Air-con contractor to recommend? We are looking for a four-way system. I was told that it is better to get a insurance for the air-con. Is that true? And, is it necessary to use with the Air-con contractor which my renovator recommend? Sorry, I know nothing about air-con. My current place does not even have one.

He was one of our shortlisted contractors too but we decided to choose another contractor which was recommended by a friend. For aircon, you need not use the one your contractor recommended but coordination is probably easier if your contractor "bao" everything. Anyway for me, I ala-carte and hands-on quite a bit for my renovations so it was ok. The "insurance" you're referring to should means the extended warranty? Well this is subjective but I personally didn't get any. I used Creation Air Pte Ltd and find their prices and service quite good. The guy is Zen Tan. He's a down to earth and quite reliable person to me. Can call him at 9009-0202 if you're interested. No commission for me but just say the guy at Sengkang Fernvale who got a system 3 and system 1. I lived there for about 28 years before moving out last year. Lots of good food and heartland shopping. I supposed your block is one of those newer tall ones? Yeah, my place is one of the tall one... but not the one near to AMK station. Mine is near AMK swimming pool. Fernvale area is definitely developing. I have stay there for almost six years already. It was quite bad when I first move in. Nothing was there and transportation in and out of the estate was a nightmare.

Nothing was there and transportation in and out of the estate was a nightmare. Near the AMK swimming pool ah, I roughly know where it is. Yah, before I chose this unit, I think that Fernvale is an ulu place and I totally won't even look at it. Then relooking at it as I was searching for a new flat, I find that it is not that bad afterall, with all the developments coming up. And I was glad I bought it just before HDB upped their prices sharply in 2007!
