Dumb Internet Question

If I subscribe to Maxonline and i have a modem and router set up, for wireless network, but i would like to have wired internet access in another room, can I just buy another modem to connect to another access point in another room, and connect via ethernet?

or must i buy one of those ethernet adapters that connect to your electrical socket (eg. http://www.netgear.com.sg/Products/Powerli...rs/HDX101.aspx)? Does this consume a lot of electricity?

Most wireless routers have ethernet ports for wired connection. Simply connect a network cable from the wireless router to the PC network card?

If u buy another modem, then have register the modem MAC address with MOL, which means another MOL subscription! U need that much bandwidth??

I've heard that signals riding those homeplugs can be rather noisy, hence may not be as fast/reliable as you expect they to be.

Some homes are wired in a way that homeplugs dun work. You may want to borrow one and test it out first. If you really want to go wired, you cannot run away from running cables.

Mayb can get your electrician to run the cables for you if u dun want to do it yourself?

BTW, y u dun want to go wireless? The current Wireless-N standards are pretty decent. I'm using still using yesterday's wireless-G, and with 4 PCs accessing the network, I'm still able to stream HD videos from my server quite well.

i intend to stream internet radio... hear that wired connection is always better when streaming, hence my plan.

you could always profile with wireless first. if its no good then u see how you want to do with wired

Not sure. but i used the powerline adapter b4 (aztech). they work quite well. plug, plug, press and it's quickly done.

but careful, coz the adapter must plug directly into the socket (cannot be in any other way), and also - your house's circuit board must be 1 only. hdb & condo usually no problem.

I am also using Aztech Powerline. Speed is comparable to wireless but not as good as Ethernet. (No point telling you the absolute number because you may not have the same broadband speed as me).
