Overlaying Tiles

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a few questions here and need some pointers...

1. Is overlaying tiles cheaper than hack & retiling?

2. If we overlay tile, will there be any problem in a long run (e.g. 5 years or 10 years down the road)? problem that i am referring here is like will the tile drop? :D hehe... not sure the example of problem given here is ridiculous.....

If overlay is cheaper and the quality is same as hack & retiling, maybe will consider to overlay.

Million thanks all :P

Yes overlaying will be cheaper...i think it will be safer to hack and relay the tiles. My contractor advise me not to overlay especially in old estate.

Is overlaying wall tiles still possible after all carpentry work is completed? So the tiles will only be on the open areas not covered by the cabinets. I am thinking to do my kitchen wall. Appreciate if anyone can help to advice and any guide of roughly how much would that be?

Many thanks in advance.

Yes, it can be done. But be prepared to see the wall tiles sitting on your kitchen top's back splash. I suggest you get the contractor to remove all electrical switches / powerpoint covers before the tiler do their job.

Price wise, it depends on how big your covering area is and how expensive a tile you choose.
