just want to update, confirmed my hacking contractor, Designer House. $1000 for hacking of 52 ft of wall, inclusive of HDB permit (they are pretty fast on the application of HDB permit too, at least for me) and clearing of debris.

also want to share something i am interested to add to my house..

an Air-tight rubbish chute hopper!

PIC1.JPGPIC2.JPGPIC3.JPG

MAXDEN manufactures a patented Air-Tight Rubbish Chute Hoppers

The most common complaint about rubbish chute hoppers is that cockroaches and foul odours could infiltrate into the residential apartments, thus contaminating it with germs, mold, bacteria and other invisible undesirables.

MAXDEN has solved this problem! It has incorporated a patented, self-sealing, magnetic-pneumatic gasket into its hopper design. This Air-Tight rubbish chute hopper will shut out cockroaches.

Guaranteed!

Features

PSB - approved 1/2 hr fire-rating -

Tested to Singapore standard ISO 3008: 1976, BS 476 part 22:1987 -

Stainless steel hairline finish -

Air-tight, self-closing -

3 years warrantly -

I LOVE THIS!!!

XIAO-QIANG-LESS!!!

best!!!

but do note, i've read some reviews in the past that the rubber sealing (or whatever) doesn't last for very long and after the maintainance contract (3yrs?), servicing fees are high but very necessary.

perhaps that was sometime ago and they've changed the model....

hi necrosis, can point me to the reviews on the rubber sealing? i tried to search, but turned up nothing.

from what i can see, this item is sealed by magnetic gasket, not rubber seal.

i think it should be in renotalk...

that's where i get most reviews from...

but i didn't save the info cos i think the price was a bit high for me...a few hundred...and what i read...

i read this quite some time ago...likely to be may-jul 09....before i started taking down ID/contractor numbers and seriously looking for contractor...

it left an impression cos i. terrified abt xiao qiangs, so anything to keep them away is perfect...then the reviews weren't too favourable....said got xiao qiangs get trapped in one portion (true, cannot enter the house) but then need maintainance to clear the dead/dying/still alive xiao qiangs in that trapped partition....which makes it difficult to close after a while...this is what i can remember....lemme scroll around the forums, see if i can stumble upon it again...

perhaps ya can try searching the forums also?

Desmond, who installed ours, took me through the maintenance routine. We're supposed to oil the seal every three months, use a bottle brush to clean the part below once every three months, remove the stoppers on each side to let the hopper open all the way back, so there's access to the little space below... and clean that once every seven years. He said the seal should work well for 14 years, after which, it can be replaced and last another 14 years. And according to him, it's not rubber, but a patented synthetic material.

FYI, when I open the chute hopper, there is a slight "pull", similar to when you pull two magnets apart. But it's not so strong that it requires a lot of force.

Hmm I did share my thoughts on this already.. see here :)

nope, but generally if you want less "responsibility", you use the one your ID recommends, but make sure the price is not overkill.

Thanks man! This forum so good, usually is over-whelmed for me... thanks for redirecting again. :)

thanks for the information :) really appreciate it.

The Maxden rubbish chute costs $450 (includes installation). Ours was scheduled for installation after the acid wash of the place. The old one was removed during hacking. Based on instructions from they guys from Maxden, our contractor got the tilers to make sure the hole left for the chute was 35cm by 35cm.

Seashell

Common toilet - TOP TRACK 2 PANELS bi-fold door (One of my favourite!) -- specially custom made!! $380

the common ones are 4 small panels but i got it custom made with only 2 panels! the trick is, the aluminium frame got to be thicker in order to support only 2 panels else it will drop easily... the frame is very sturdy and strong! thumbs up! much better than PD door!!

the material inside the aluminimum frame is made of 'Lami-glass' that is so called the safety glass!

Company's name: Torra Aluminium & Renovation Works

wonder if i can get cheaper prices :P
