mist 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2007 (edited) Actually mirrors are glass with a kind of slivery coating at the back to reflect images. With a wood backing protecting the coating can prevent the coating from peeling off when contacting with moisture... If u have notice some cheap mirrors use in toilets u can see patches of transparent glassanother reason for the wood backing is that our wall is not entirely straight/flat. so u cannot glue a big mirror directly onto the wall without the woodbacking. the silvery coating turns black because of oxidation, due to contact with air/moisture, like wad you said.hianyone has used the tile type of mirror from ikea?do u mean the small tile sized mirror that ikea sells? looks nice when u put alot together! gwumpkus 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 arent the ones from Ikea like 200mm square or something like that? using them on the full ht of a wall would produce a mosaic effect, with the myriad of joint lines...hmm.. is that the intended effect? also, u'l prob need to line them up properly, if not the topmost row may not match up with with the ceiling line...not all houses are perfectly plumbed..... (ask me how *I* know.....groan...)
