Think it'll look great if u change all the top cabinets to white laminate. Effects would be enhanced if you could add a few glass panels.

another option is to change the laminate on the top cabinets to glossy white. instead of a ceiling lamp, add cove lights or track lights to shine on the glossy surface for additional brightening effect. if you don't mind splurging, you can select a metallic silver/aluminum laminate with reflective surfaces.

I suppose changing the doors is one of the best way to save money. By only changing the doors, it will change the whole entire kitchen ambiance. White doors will make the kitchen space bigger and looks cleaner. If you prefer brighter colours like light green, orange...it will work too. However, those additional colours might not suit your character. =) Colours preference is all based on you. You need to choose a colour that you like. Imagine you will get into the kitchen everyday and looking at those colours.

Please don't try to re-laminate yourself..The reason: It will not last long enough, because it will peel a lot faster compared to a good re-lamination using ABS trimming.

I suggest if you want to change the doors, get it down @ kitchen contractor, or any normal furniture contactor. You can re-use your current doors, then they can relaminate you using a good pressed edges.

I hope your kitchen will look a lot nicer =)

thanks for the idea.. but budget is a contraints..

haha i try to save as much possible by doing DIY whatever i can manage. well, laminte to a brighter glossy colour surely is one of the way. Putting lighting can work too but must watch out the PUB bill later..

btw, u hv done this b4? where to get cheap laminate?

thanks fr the advice! u have tried DIY urself and encountered problem? don mind tell me what is an ABS trimming?

i think changing all the doors maybe too costly for me... i think the key in getting the laminate last long long time is the 'preparation phase'. really need to clean the surface and remove all grease...

i hv not tried b4 but maybe it is hard to acheive...

I actually feel that since ur kitchen cabinets are still in good condition, then just leave it and try to just act some 'missing' items to brighten up the place. If u try to do laminate urself, its very technical. How are u going to do the ABS trimming??? And also i saw my carpenter change laminate to my kitchen cabinet before and trust me, its not easy slicing out the laminate. If you slice too deep then u damage your cabinet. If you are thinkin of changing the cabinet doors to a different colour, then how to match back to the existing grey colour which can still be seem at the side of ur kitchen cabinet??? Plus my carpenter quoted me $90 per kitchen door. That don sound very cost saving......considering u have more doors than my kitchen...

Just for your consideration, i have posted a picture of my small kitchen with orange back splash. My kitchen cabinet colour is grey with black granite top. After installing the cabinets then realize that the kitchen looks dull. So made a bold decision to place orange back splash...at least got some colour not so boring.....oh do not look at the cooker hood cos i haven peel off the plastic protection sheet.....

$90 per door is really out of my budget as i got so many doors! and looks like mine are of a darker gray colour

Basically they pressed down the ply door in between 2 laminates or 1 laminate on one side and poly white on the other side, then they capped it with a plastic. So, your door will look like one entire unit byitself. No more sharp edges...

From your picture links seems like your kitchen doors are using ABS trimming.. hmm can't really see coz its too small.

450 is quite ex... actually i read somewhere in the forum that using a stianless steel sheet will do also. i already found a glass shop near my workplace and check the price with him later..

ya i think i will get a tempered glass, and maybe painted it myself on the back haha... or maybe get s stainless steel sheet with a mirror finish! i think tat works for my dull dull kitchen!
