pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2009 HIHI! Welcome to SG and RT!! Hacking, tiling, levelling of areas, changing of windows need reno permit. But are easily approved in a day or two. Hacking of walls which are in bold..on your floorplan (usu referred to as beams) need more time for approval and like what PJ says, might need an engineer. Babyblue 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2009 pinkpetter, meaning so long as i don't touches the beam, it shouldn't be rejected by HBD, correct? walls i wanted to get rid off are none of those actually. not too worry abt the time taken to get the permit, rather whether it will b approved as i did heard abt the beam thingy b4. shall see how it goes... tks. pbtgal 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 Hi Babyblue congrats. Maybe u can consider getting contractors instead of ID. There are a few good ones engaged by the forumers here. Agree to some extent, ID will impose some of their ideas to the owners. Tho' we can reject their ideas but sometimes we are being influenced by their so-called interior designer's instinct . Hi Babyblue ID is the firm where an interior designer will come up with a designs, most prob they will draw 3D drawings for u to visualise and liaise with their contractors when reno start. Contractors are reno co. which require most owners to come up wif their own designs. For my own reno, I am using Ideal House which is one of the few most recommended Reno firm and of course, there are many. For contractors, my hb had approached Basic Image (Mr Yeak) b4 but schedule cant meet. 2 other contractors which i have seen many good recommendations are Henry from Impress 21 & Patrick from Ho Bee. Hi, ID is interior designer, they will plan and design the whole house for you. They will also provide you with the 3D design. 3D design cost money. As for contractor, they do not do design or provide you with a 3D design. If you already have a design in mind, engaging a contractor will be much cheaper. ID will usually source for other contractors and sub contractors to work on your house, thus it is more expensive. Usually the contractor has a fix group of sub contractors working under them, therefore their charges are cheaper. They are many who know good sub contractors too, and they will engage their services direct. However it is troublesome, since you have to do the coordinating. Hope it helps! Babyblue 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 OIC.... in short, if we r sure of what we wanted, the cheaper way is do without the ID (juz like what we did for our current home). got it! i thot it's a must to engage an ID in order to get things going. tks Pbtgal, streak04. Reiki 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 (edited) Applications for permit can be done via an ID or contractor. Babyblue, perhaps you might want to read HDB Guideline for Common Building Work - [Credit to beany0811 who posted this link in their blog] Edited July 16, 2009 by Reiki

Hi Babyblue, yes. In fact i am a little regret for not engaging a contractor this time since from beginning we know wat we want already. The price difference can be in thousands or even more. Hopefully my end-result will be worth the $$$ i paid for. Good luck to you!
