vinmiche 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) Finally gotten our very own place! Being excited homeowners, we decided to start a blog to track the renovation progress as well as to serve as a reminder of how the place used to look like... i.e. Before vs After. Had gotten some useful tips from this forum so now trying to contribute a bit back. Feel free to check out our blog and give us your comments. Cheers! skyblue 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2009 Congratulations, vinmiche, on the new place you've got. Whole house looks like in pretty good condition before your reno, hopefully the process is a "painless" one. Cheers!!
vinmiche 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2009 (edited) Thks skyblue. Actually the general condition was okay but just very dirty and unappealing. The worst was the kitchen which we were quite amazed how the previous owner could cook in such an environment!!! Lucky there aren't much build-in stuff so basically we're free to do whatever we like. Also we realised that a fresh coat of paint and some touchups can really do wonders! Here are some comparison pictures... original kitchen rotting counter-top after hacking off the awful cabinets original living room after adding some downlights, painted 1 coat, new skirtings... Angel81 1 Report post Posted July 13, 2009 Welcome welcome! Hehe, a fresh coat of paint does wonders to the place. The kitchen counter top looked ok from afar, but terrible in the 2nd pic. hehehe.. Really can't imagine how the previous owner cooks.
Pinklady 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 wow, the counter top really looked in a very terrible condition. How much is your minor reno costs?
vinmiche 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2009 (edited) wow, the counter top really looked in a very terrible condition. How much is your minor reno costs? Hi Pinklady, my 'minor' reno cost is ballooning as days go by... reaching $20k liao Below are the key items I'm doing: - 5 new laminate doors & 1 tempered glass door - 2 sliding-door wardrobes - 1 kitchen cabinet with solid surface & tempered glass panel - 2 toilet cabinets & 1 vanity counter with solid surface - 1 wall-to-wall storage low cabinet - 1 shoe cabinet - new door handles/knobs, hinges for whole house - electrical works (think total abt 20+ new light points & 10+ new power socket points) - sand and varnish 3 bedroom parquet floors - repair damaged parquet flooring - new skirtings - painting for whole house - general cleaning, dismantling and misc. services Overall, I think it is not cheap but also not too expensive (I hope)... but more importantly, I want the quality to match the price. So far, I'm quite happy with my contractor's service and quality (except the carpentry, still 50-50 and can't really tell as it's not fully completed yet). Now keeping fingers crossed and hoping all will turn out okay. Targeting to be completed by end-July. Edited July 17, 2009 by vinmiche
