Laminate Vs Vinyl Flooring

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I very new to RenoTalk so hope to learn from everyone here.. :)

I'm doing my ID hunt now and last weekend when I was at one ID, he recommended me to consider Vinyl flooring instead of Laminate flooring for my bedrooms. I Googled it and it seems some that some favor Vinyl while some favor Laminates. So now I'm not sure which is actually better.

Anyone here have some personal experiences to share?

Thanks.. :)

For safety issue, firstly Vinyl is not fire-proof, for domestic usage Vinyl is about 2mm thickness and commercial is about 3mm, we have to consider the wear and tear over the years, thats the thickness we have to handle. As for laminate floor board we are talking about 8mm in thickness.

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for your reply. The thinkness of Vinyl as compared to Laminates indeed an important factor to consider. Thanks.. :) Recently during a visit to an ID, the ID mentioned that Vinyl mentioned that Vinyl being rubber is definitely much more water resistant than rubber and hence the popping up of the surface is much less unlikely.

However, he still recommends laminates as some laminates like Supreme have lifetime warranty so you can be rest assured that it can be changed. In addition, Laminates are more scratch resistant and the labour work to lay vinyl is more costly. With these pointers I think I would very most likely go with Laminates. Unless another ID tell me another story. Will keep everyone here updated... :D

Cheers

you are most welcome NIL,

if it is compared with rubber it would be less likely, how about laminate floor board? :P

Most laminates come with life time warranty. Go for those laminate floorboards which are children-friendly. Most customers tend to neglect them and also always choose materials which are going in the direction of being green or environment friendly. However price is another factor we have to consider. Cheers.
