andrew 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2009 Recently, my house water pipes give off a loud humming sound when I on the tap. I tried adjusting the pressure at the main, with little help. It seems like something is causing vibrations in the pipes behind the wall. Any advise on how to solve it ?

It seems like something is causing vibrations in the pipes behind the wall. Any advise on how to solve it ? i believe it's water hammer....its got to do with air trapped within the pipes.....no easy to solve if it's caused by the way the pipings are routed. does it occur only when 1 particular tap is on? u may need to go thru the process of elimination to narrow down the problem area. good luck! blursotong 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2009 dunno the proper terminology.....had that issue when house taps were switched to level type on-off from the screw type. acting on the suggestion of a neighbour, we switched back to the screw type and the problem was solved. andrew 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2009 Thanks all ! Got the problem Solved ! It was due to a leaky tap ! I had that replaced and the noise is totally gone ! Apparently, when another tap is turned off, that particular moment, causes pressure and that tap leaks ! Didn't know until my maid told me. The seal is probably gone in that tap with lots of algae around it !!!!
fionkoh 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2010 Hello... Has your noisy water pipes problem resolved? I am also having the same problem now. Whenever I am using the water from 2 sources (eg : flushing the water toilet bowl and using the water tap at the same time). There will be a loud rattling sound coming from my service yard water pipe.. The tap fixed at the service yard even got water flowing out whenever the rattling sound occurs... Recently, the situation more worse.. I did not use turn on any water tap at all but the rattling sound still occurs. Believed that it should be my block neighbour who are using the water. Not sure what actually goes wrong with the pipe.. So how you manage to solve your problem? By changing the water tap? Or lower the pressure of the water pipe? Thanks all ! Got the problem Solved ! gladyslim 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2010 (edited) I used to get this irritating noise and get HDB down to my unit to check. It's leakage at someone flat but it's difficult to track which unit. Till one day, I heard noise of mending the water pipe at my upper floor and the noise is gone. Your case, it could be your leaking tap, maybe it's the white tape worn off. Turn off your main water suppy, remove your tap, check the rubber lining. There's no need to change new tap, just replace the worn out lining, if any and have the tap tighten, you need to use those white tape on the screw thread.
