Mine are still strong after 10 years of usage One is a PAX wardrobe with sliding door, the other is a full pine bunk bed. What's your furniture? Just check the quality of the product before you buy it, test the quality at the showroom, before deciding whether to buy
Batman 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2009 i have a PAX wardrobe which is still going strong after 8-10 years. Other than signs of 'age' its still serving its purpose. i agree with hihihi whereby their high end ones r too ex and low end ones are so-so only. for me, i'd not pay top dollars for ikea. hence my mentality is that, if i buy ikea stuffs, i'm prepared to change it after a few years. just my 2cents. Topline 1 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Go find out. Go to ikea and jump on them thing is ... will it last 1 year? $50 is not expensive for a decent chair but overpriced for rubbish...
Priscilla 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 thing is ... will it last 1 year? $50 is not expensive for a decent chair but overpriced for rubbish... I ever got a white book cabinet, about a year, the interior turn yellowish despite cleaning. Price wise I think is reasonable. Now I notice there one called 'beng tuan' something like that, usually advertise in newspaper cabinets are quite sturdy. Got $199. But one salesperson service very bad. Get the right one. At least Ikea got exchange policy......
tuababy 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2009 I also frequent Ikea quite regularly. Got their BESTA series of cabinets for my book shelves and storage solutions. Now actually selling off the sofa I bought from them some years back as I've gotten a bigger one for my living room. The wooden sofa frame is still good and going strong. Generally I think Ikea has some very good and nice designs and the customisable of some of their furniture series makes them an attractive choice. However, whether it lasts or not, it will depend on how you use them.

At least Ikea got exchange policy...... This Beng Tuan place, I got a bad experience there! Went down there to check out their dining table which was advertised in the papers. As we couldn't find it we approached one of the salesman. He doesn't seem to know where is it and dare to hastily tell us "that's the one at the corner lor". I told him the picture and price are different but he pointed at some fine print on the newspaper advert and said "Picture for illustration only". Then he proceeded to calculate the the price with GST and so-called delivery charges which the final cost is still lower than the advertised price and INSISTED that is the correct one! What nonsense! We walked away right away after that.
jacob_mw2 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 My experience with Ikea is that you have to go to the showroom to inspect the quality. One thing I am glad is that Ikea does not "hide" or "enhance" their products. They assemble it and show you how it will look and feel like so you can "test" if their quality is up to your standard. Eg. before I buy their products, I make sure I take a look at their showroom item and see if it can withstand my "wear and tear" by doing things like opening and closing, checking the edges and joints, scratch test, etc. Some items in the catalog looks really nice and cheap, but when you inspect closer, the workmanship is not there So the things that I finally decide to buy will depend on the quality of it. Expensive need not mean better quality in Ikea. So far, I am considering their FAKTUM kitchen cabinets with DOMJOS double sink and PRAGEL worktop, LILLÅNGEN vanity cabinet/mirror, BESTA tv console and ELGA wardrobes PS. if and when the wood sags, buy new ones and replace Hi Ossify , How is the kitchen stuff from Ikea holding up so far? strontium 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 Ikea furniture got 2 grades.. the cheap ones and the high end ones. Exactly! If you pay for more, expect better quality. Anything cheap in price at IKEA is likely cheap in quality...
Misc100 2 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 I'm using an EXPEDIT book cabinet. This range is quite nice, I feel. did you add any drawer or cabinet to yr EXPEDIT book shelf?
Misc100 2 Report post Posted April 8, 2010 IKEA charge 6% assembly fees of the cost of items. I am not sure if I assemble myself, it will work or not.
jtcp82 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2010 I once bought some kitchen cabinet from them. Charge me 200 dollars for assembly. In the end I do it myself. Took about 4 hours though for me to fix everything.
Daveyap 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2011 At least with Ikea Leather Sofa, you know exactly what you are purchasing because they will inform you clearly in writing whether it is real leather or not. Ikea even tells you openly they are using split leather for the non seating & non contact areas.
folwer 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2011 best time to get ikea furniture is moving house that time....the movers will normally have to dismental your existing furniture when you move...so at the end destination, just ask them nicely to fix one or 2 items that you have brought for you - then no assembly fees.....
