Jann 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2009 Hi Jann, I'm also facing wood smell prob with my console table. External easy to solve, air it a few days the smell disappear. But the internal I tried opening the console doors to ventilate, the smell still remains. Some people suggested using charcoal or coffee powder, will remove odour, but I have not tried. Moth ball is a NO-No. Another issue, any one has experience preventing wood bugs, silver fish or worst termites with their woody furnitures? Sorry, don't mean to hijack your thread, but since we have wood furnitures, perhaps someone can share with us on wood furniture maintenance. My other furniture no issue, only my gal furniture. As for wardrobes, we opened the doors to ventilate and so far ok. I also bought the refresher from NTUC to put inside the wardrobe to get rid of the woody smell. Moth ball is also a big NO NO for us as me and the boz are G6PD. silver fish? We had that when we were staying in EM. Really freak out when we saw them but its usually the occasional one appears and the next moment we'll send them to heaven if u know what I mean. We tried to keep the area dry but I was thinking if its the quality of the wood that was used to built our WIW and MBR platform cos the silver fish only occurred in our MBR. Or is it because MBR has the attached bathroom? We never managed to find out the reason and we've seen moved out. So far, no more silver fishes over at our new place. Also, they inhabit dry papery areas such as old books and newspaper stacks. Silverfish will commonly graze in and around showers, baths, and sinks on the cellulose present in many shampoos, shaving foams and so on. Apart from these cases, the damage caused by silverfish is negligible and they have no direct effect on human health beyond psychological distress to those who are frightened or disgusted by their appearance, or to those whose books have been destroyed by the creatures. Other substances that may be eaten include cotton, linen, silk and synthetic fibers, and dead insects or even its own exuvia (moulted exoskeleton). During famine, a silverfish may even attack leatherware and synthetic fabrics. In extreme cases, silverfish may live for one year without eating.[2] Silverfish can be found anywhere in homes including, but not limited to, garages, closets, underneath beds, couches, and in electrical appliances where food can be found, such as computer keyboards.
