Blockwood is definitely weaker than plywood.

Nowadays everyone is using plywood unless contractor wants to save on material.

your blockboard = chipboard?

many years ago, laminated chipboard is still popular to make the top surface (very much cheaper than solid surface top). However, the body of cabinet are always made from plywood.

(actualy plywood also have different grades)

I prefer to said it in another way 2 layers of plywood, 3 layers or 4 layers, hollow plywood..etc.
