Hi Mrspiglet, I had PM several of the forumers that asked for my contractor contacts. As for experience wise, forummers also did ask me and I had shared with them my point of view and shared with them all the details. I am a low profile guy, unlike some who likes to give daily updates on Uncle Soon progress, thats not my style. Hope you understand.

Hi matchgirl, I will PM you the contact.

HI to everyone here..

I am very new here. Have been reading all the forums recently as I'm getting my unit soon. Heard abt different contractors available that are so great in their work.

I was wondering if anyone can PM me Ah Soon's, Mr Yeak's and ncy's contractor's contacts? I wanna check out everyone tat are good and get their quotation before I decide on one.

Anybody tried Innerview builder? My fren had her house done up by them and it looks okie for now. Any bad experiences with them?

Thanks..

i don't see what benefits do we (houseowners) get by just sharing our reno experience and contractor with one another in a public forum, since we have completed and shifted into (most of us) our new premises. If there's another better contractor out there, i'm interested to know as well, since there'll always be a chance that i'll shift or re-renovate my house in years to come.

I think we are all here in a forum with an objective of learning more from one another.

ncy, i'm pretty interested and waiting for u to share ur reno experience. I'm sure it will be gd for others to have an alternative selection. :)

Btw, my hats of to rock, who said "some forumers who speak good of him -- sounded as if is ah soon relative or what.... ".

Its indeed true that some of the Ah Soon supporters are really emotional. I really do not have a clue why they acting this way as it baffles me seeing their reaction on this forum.

wow

i sense the sparks and soon the flaming

I applaud those who came out saying that Ah Soon is not a registered contractor (if its true). I believe this will help people to make an informed choice. Taking up a job from someone who is unlicensed is definately a risk.

I believe best ppl to ask is HDB, maybe can call them up and ask them the cons on going for an unlicensed contractor. I am sure they be well informed to give an explanation.

He'll only tell you how feasible your design is (whether it can be done) but he won't give much input over how good it looks. In fact, one forummer here put it very succintly, "would you trust the design of your house to an uncle who wears a dusty shirt and 3-quarters everyday??" =p

True :D

Finally I find a forumer to say this. I actually doubt if Ah Soon was a HDB registered contractor, and asked if he was, but I didn't receive a straight reply. My posted question was burried and forgotten. Now reading your post, I can confirm my finding was right.

I think if you don't feel safe taking a non-registered contractor, you should go for a registered one. The people over here should know Ah Soon is not, but they're willing to take risk because of cheap price. So no point warning them when they already know.

As long as everyone is happy with their renovation...

Yap ah soon himself doesnt have the licence. But he did ask a licence company or contractor to cover him this is basically ok. That licence company will be held liable in the event there are any issue violating the contractor rules and regulation during the process of work. Ah soon dont have to be "legal" to start the renovation works. As long as applied for the renovation thru the town council and obtain approval that is most important. If say ah soon didnt apply, then the owner is at risk and ah soon deems as "illegal". If this is the case, better dont engage his services or any other contractors that are illegal. Anyway, it is common for contractor to ask or borrow from licence company to obtain renovation permit from the authority.

Yes, ah soon provides reasonable price, not cheap price compare with ID firm. As most important of all, he is reasonable and willingly to go to the extra mile to help. Thats what customer is looking for and not argue and argue till the cow comes home.

my two cents

Have PMed you Ah Soon's contact.

His workmanship is not too bad, including his carpentry.

Depending on what you mean by design. If you have some ideas what you want, it is okay to use him for your reno.

Thanks I have received it...:) Noted your points...
