Condo Reno Vs Hdb Reno

Hi all,

im getting a small private apartment soon.

Just like to check, when i wanna look for ID/Contractor, would they quote me more if they know that it's a private apartment?

becos i do understand that some ID quoted much more on condo even though the size is much smaller than a HDB flat.

Is there's any advise?

condo tend to have higher ceiling.

so the painting normally will cost more.

also anything to do with height you have to pay more.

For example: A T.V feature wall will be calculated as 9ft compared to HDB 8ft.

mm shingirl.. it's highly possible. Since people who own private are known to be "richer" and can afford to be "chopped".

The only advice is to get someone honest.

Common advices:

1. Go shop around for general feel of the pricing.

2. Must check with your condo to see what kind of reno can what kind cannot

3. Most important, read some of the threads here for recommendation

I was told by an ID that condo reno more expensive as working hours are shorter (can only start after 10am & stop at 4:30pm) so need to take longer to finish the reno. In other words, workers got to work more no. of days & they are paid daily wages.

yeah you are right. most of the time, ID firms or contractors thinks that since you can afford a condo, then can afford to cut more carrot heads. so must be very careful when you look and sign on the quote.

That is true. Recently renovated my place, and there are other costs as well. Had a wall knocked down and had to pay an engineer to certify that it is a non weight bearing wall etc. Even move-in dates, e.g. getting your furniture in etc, needed to be organized with security deposits paid. My management gave my contractor quite a bit of grief, the neighbours claimed their ceiling paint was getting chipped from all the work done in my unit etc, and expected my contractor to rectify it, which he did, FOC.

If you ask me, whatever I paid for my condo reno was more than worth the time and effort my poor contractor put in.

First thing they ask is where I stay ... if i say condo ... they always say that price is higher ... cannot use standard pricing ... if I say HDB, they also say offer is for low quality ... so on the average price you should pay more to get a better quality ... no matter what you say ... they will try to sound out your budget and try to work to max it out
