Stucco As Wall Covering

Just read up on an alternative to wall paper, tiles and paint on the wall - stucco.

However, I'm still in a little lost on it as the info i've read so far doesn't really explain its pros and cons, and how much it costs generally. Not being in this line also, I'm a bit lost on its application, where it works best etc.

Anyone (especially the IDs and contractors here) can share your valuable knowledge please?
