sixer 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 Hi sixter may i know how much u spend for your reno?asking cos i was doing something similiar...havent choose any contractor yet...so just want to have a ball park figure. somewhere between 35 to 40. haven finalized the to-do list so cant confirm yet. Congrates on confirming with Yeak! I'm sure Yeak will be able to help you with the downlights planning. Can always run through ur electrical points with him and also double check with the lights shop when you go and buy ur lights. Just bring your floor plan along and they will be able to assist. have asked several shops and other people but i get different response from different people. so quite confused... but from the response i gathered, i guess the distance between 2 downlights is between 1.2m to 1.5m (4ft to 5ft) ? give me the floor area of your living/bedroom,and i do the calculaion for u. floor area i lazy to calculate but i have attached my false ceiling and light plan in my next post. take a look and feel free to correct me. thx! sixer 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2009 False ceiling and lighting plan Hi renotalkers, finally manage to squeeze some time to do my ceiling and lighting plan. Not very sure whether this will be bright enough or did we overdo it? The black shaded portion at dining will be a cove that is painted black. Will hang some nice nice lights from the center which will be above the dining table. Black shaded portion at master bedroom is also a cove which will be wallpapered. Intend to have spotlights at WIW to shine at the clothes (boutique style ) but scare it will make the WIW very warm. All advices are appreciated. Angel81 1 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Hehe, that's quite alot of downlights you got there. IMHO, can always try to reduce abit for areas where u won't be doing much reading or activities. For eg, the MBR, can try to reduce to 2 downlights on each side, esp since u have the cove lights. And for ur walkway, if u won't be doing much stuff there, can reduce the no. of lights as well. But if u will be playing mj or sth there, then the lights are fine. The living room lights can be reduced to 2 each as well, save cost and future electricity. I like the spotlight idea for the WIW, but will they become a white elephant in future? I like the spotlight idea for the WIW, but will they become a white elephant in future? ok. i guess when you say reduce to 2 meaning use 2X18 instead of 2X13 downlights? ya.. still thinking whether to do the spotlights. worried that it will be very warm when on i'm so happy for you...are you one of those going to start work in june? yesterday he came to pass me the laminates samples...told me his june work is full....can't take in anymore.... think you have a lot downlights if scared not bright can put 2x18 and reduce the nos of downlights personally i think the walkway to the rooms and MBR no need so many lights just bright enough to see......initially hubby also worried not bright kept asking...but i guess after seeing a few houses and discussion with Yeak we decide for my dining put 6 (same as yours) and the living room 4 or 5 somemore only L shaped but with cove lighting... will be meeting Yeak next week for a confirmed plan on the false ceilings... Congrats once again...more pictures.... i am going to start at end of this month.. so you are using 2X18 also? if yes then can go your place to take a look at the brightness.... keke... if u are using 2x18 watts, this layout should be sufficient to meet the brightness requirement! U may print it out and show it to Yeak electrician and discuss further with him. Remember, the lesser downlight=lesser cost.haha Especially u have cove light.usually u wont On all the lights! there is no yeak electrician... will be DIYing the electricals.... so need more opinion.. will 2X18 downlight look bulky? i am able to get downlight at contractor price so install a bit more is still ok.. intention was to install more 2X13 downlights but would not switch them all on at the same time. Wanted to book Yeak this sunday to look at our place...he nearly forgotten that he is meeting at your place 2pm. Haha no worries he is sending another representative to meet HTB and I instead. sixer 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2009 At least Mr Yeak knows his limit and ensure that he's able to oversee all the works That's a major plus point for me that's what i appreciate most about Yeak.... yup...i think he got read renotalk too..haha.. he compare himself to ah-soon..he said ah-soon sub out to other people,so no problem for him to accept a few cases at the same time.for him,he gotta organised his slog since he is the only one over-look the whole project. he don want to have any mistake during the whole progress as it could be a headache! During my reno i only check it out on the progress once or twice a week only. I leave everything to him in safe hand. that's one of the main reasons why i chose him :thumbs up:
