hello88 2 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 Hi, just moved in to my 5i and having some problems with the SCV points. All the 4 rooms and living hall already fixed up with SCV points. 2 of the rooms having reception problems as frequently seeing box-like pixels on the TV screen or the screen might freeze for a second or two. Maxonline connection at study room also occasionally giving lacks connection. Yet to try out the connection in the last room since there's no TV set inside the room. Had called in SCV and confirmed that the set boxes are in good working order and the problem is caused by 1 single SCV point spitting into 4 rooms + 1 living hall. Signal is very bad as only receiving about less than 40%. Advised to call in SCV technician and re-connection fee would be $107 per point. We're holding back due to the cost and had consulted 2 electricians. One suggested getting a booster and cost would be lesser than having to re-connect the 4 points. SCV had also suggested pulling and installing an extra box outside which is not the norm since its per box per household. Any one encounter such problems? yoongf 11 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 I believe more than 4 points need to use an indoor booster. See this link for the approved Booster model. http://www.starhub.com/portal/site/CableTV...000464114acRCRD If dun want to get the booster, wad I did.. was to go to junction box and unplug the wire (unscrew from spliiter) to the rooms that dun have TV installed. As for Maxonline.. this is hardest to troubleshoot. Maxonline got many complaints about DC, as discussed in many local forums. If suspect is wiring issue, the usual suspects is the splitter, either corroded or non approved model. Maxonline also require that from outdoor to pass through only 1 splitter, ie, the modem must connect to living room point. some contractors take shortcut and daisy chain the TV cable among the rooms. SCV will install from the distribution box to each room, rather than lay 1 cable to Rm 1, then from Rm 1 to Rm2, etc.

My guess was that the Maxonline is having DC problem due to the same problems as my 2 rooms which are not receiving the highest level of signals. We did whole house re-wiring for our old place and never had such a problem with the TV receptions or max online. Guess I'll probably try out your suggestion of removing those wire for rooms w/o setbox for the time being and save up enough to call in SCV technicians. Tks anyway
