New Home In The East

Recommended Posts

Hi Gaku, I can totally understand your frustration on HO. Mine has been changed 2 times too. SIGH.

You got to be firm with Uncle or else he will give priority to other projects. That's the feel I get when my rectifications works were not done on time. So, call him EVERYDAY to bug him or else you will be bleeding money with your rental and movers. I really stand on your side.

Just quarreled with Uncle. He refused that I charged him the movers and told me that I should be able to move in this morning. We both have our own principle. I really want to get over this thing fast.

HO changed 2 times is still ok. You can see how many times my changed.

Thanks for standing on my side. I know uncle's supporter will not like my posting and I have already received negative remarks.

Even though my unhappiness, I don't want to affect his business. And so I may delete my blog once this episode is over. Different people manage him differently and perhaps my way is not right and thus so many delays.

It is not miscomm. For my last shifting he admitted his mistake and will pay. For today he felt that he did nothing wrong as he has arranged the polishing this morning so he refused to pay. For me since he told me to give him until 3pm, so definitely I cannot arrange shifting in the morning. According to him shifting and polishing can be done at the same time.

To be fair, I cannot say that he is wrong but after so many broken promises, I did not want to take the risk and shift and if not done properly shift back again.

Pardon me for interjecting, but guy77 is right. No need to delete the blog, as long as you are writing your own experiences, it is up to each individual to read it (without prejudice) for reference. This forum is to share ideas/experiences, should anyone dislike your posts, they could just leave and read others.

Just a thought. Cheers with well wishes! :)

There is no need to delete your blog. Everyone shares their experience, be it good or not. Hubby walked thru withincle ytd on the rectifications and I called him just now, he said he forgot. I told him all works latest by monday cos I'll shift on Tuesday...don't want delay. I hope he can fulfill his promise

gaku: ya, can understand the frustration. shift the date to and fro and we are the one liaising with the people. on my side, since i can wait, i just wait until all is settled then plan for furniture, curtain and so on to be shifted in. can buy time on my part.

gaku I agree that you should not delete your blog. Whether it is a good job done or bad job done, it should be surfaced so that new home owners can make informed decision and also learn through your bad experience. I don't think there is a need for you to feel bad about affecting uncle's business cos he is well aware that his actions and the way he handles his project will be well publicised online, be they good or bad.

Ignore those immature PMs, I think most will vote for transparency. You hang on in there!!

Folks using uncle, maybe we can all put in our bit to help gaku a little, those that do not need the flat back within the next few days, maybe we can just make it known to uncle to deploy his resources to clear up Gaku's unit and let him shift in first.

Gaku Jia you!

Hi gaku70

though i am not a member of the Soon's fan club but i followed some of ur threads quite closely cos i do see quality jobs done in some of the projects & his sincerity in rectifying the mistakes done by his teams of workers. Think Uncle Soon's hands are very tight and need good right- & left-hand men to help out in project management.

You are right everyone's standards of acceptance is difference. Your blog will not affect Uncle's biz very much cos in reno there bound to be ups and downs. Even if you engaged the best contractor/id (again how to know whether he is really the one), there bound to be miscommunications somewhere cos everybody see things differently. What you have blogged are important pointers we can learn from.

Best best of luck to you! Hope to see you start to blog the happiness in your reno soon.

Such hiccups do happen, gaku and understandably you can be upset. I experienced your journey where I had to postpone deliveries of items few times cos renovation can't complete in time. Unfortunately, in your case, the timing to re-schedule last minute changes spells additional costs which can be avoided if only you are to be informed much earlier.

Personally, I think you made the right decision not to move in till all works are done. Polishing of floors need, in my opinion, cleared of any cartons/bulky things around for effective cleaning. A proper HO is where you would be able to view with bird's eye view of the house, with full perspective for all [contracted] works agreed in the quotes.

You don't have to delete your Tblog, gaku. To err is human; it only shows that uncle has his fault too. And, that does not mean he is a bad contractor. A matured reader, when he reads your blog and those houses tending by uncle at the same time as yours, will be able to balance his opinion.

I only hope you are able to settle your grievances with a win-win situation for both parties.

Gaku70, u r a strong person. If a contractor I pay my hard earned $ do this to me, he will get a big F from me liao. He or she can be sure of that. I mean datelines are datelines. Maybe its a lesson learnt for all. My friend told me before, he worked out an Agreement with his contractor that if he fails to handover the flat on that certain date, he will incure penalty charges. Something like that. Maybe its good, hot contractors like Ah Soon should have that clause embedded in the contract so he dont go back against his words when it comes to handing the unit on the agreed date.

As for the $ you incurred, hope you can get back the $ from Ah Soon.If can't, what to do but just move on and hopefully a brighter day is waiting for you ahead.

... Poor gaku. I think from the start I already feel upset for you.. from the day you tried to get quotations... Sigh

Please don't delete your blog. It'll serve as a good warning for those who think it'll be a smooth ride.

I hope you really managed to move in today.

Please dont delete your blog. This is a forum where we can share our real experience.

Let there be true transparency.

You have your own unique challenges and I am sure different ones of us also have some frustrations (big or small) in some ways. In fact, sharing them is good. Not all Ah Soon reno projects proceed smoothly too. So that others who read have a balanced view.

Meanwhile, stay cool...... look ahead. You can move in soon. Enjoy the new house! :yamseng:

I'm not uncle fan, not on anyone side.

But when i was looking around for contractors and IDs,

no one dare to say 1 mth renovation is sufficient.

All told me need at least 8 weeks as i'm doing an overhaul (hack every tiles and all from scratch)

cos fast jobs may result in sloppy work.

I'm not sure why uncle promised gaku that he can deliver at that time.

Perhaps he really can, until suddenly, he becomes so popular.

from what i read from the forums, he has many sub-contractors, and kept changing. (correct me if i'm wrong)

all these results in work held back, and when workers were rushed to complete their work, and get h*ll from uncle if they don't do well or in time,

human nature, the workers don't feel good. And in the end, they give sh*t to the owners.

From dirtying the toilet bowl, using the bath towels, etc, these workers should know that they are not suppose to be doing it.

but it seems like they did it on purpose, venting their anger??

And who suffers? Gaku.

Uncle is aware that he is going to get h*ll from you. but perhaps on his end, he really can't find help? or perhaps he got other reasons/ excuses.

So he chose to run away from it, or maybe he really don't know how to face you, so drag the time.

Especially now, you told him if HO delay, he will have to 50-50 the rental, and perhaps movers, then, i guess, imo, he might just forget about the remaining payment.

those who got him earlier are really lucky. but at the end of the day, he is afterall a contractor. he need profits to pay sub-contractors and workers.

if too much ding-dong, and eating into his profits, then he might just react differently. then in the end, you suffer.

those who don't have to rush uncle, always end up having their jobs done well...or acceptable. and it is not fair why always you - getting all those sh*t.

Some might feel that, well, you gave him short time to do reno, can't blame uncle - its like giving him a mission impossible.

But he was the one who promised, and you trusted him, then now you getting craps, your bear all sh*t, he just get screams from you.

IMO, instead of waiting for uncle, approach another contractor.

if need to, I can give you mine. He's a nice uncle, and i'm sure listening to your situations, he might be able to help..

my 2 cents. sorry if i offended any Soon-fans
