Thanks for the info. I think I better draw it out and paste on the wall, together with the layout of the water pipings.

i think no need to worry too much abt the drainage. The tilers will automatic create a smaller drainage for shower area. The bigger one (usually under the sink) is very obvious after the hacking. No way to miss it one.

mrspiglet: For the bathrooms the location of the shower head is not the same as the previous owner. So if the tiler follow the same, then the drainage hole will be in the opposite direction. I hope uncle has brief the tiler.

Also for the sink, both my bathroom has change locations.

I notice uncle has used my draft 3D to instruct tiler on what tiles to use. I can see his chinese writing on my draft.

Just came back after checking the house. Quite upset today.

Progress was extremely slow. I reckon there is only one worker doing the tiling. Living room, dining room, bedrooms all not started yet. I don't really believe can complete by saturday.

Bathroom wall tiles colour was incorrect. Reminded uncle on Tuesday when they just started. Now the wall completed.

Bathroom mozaic column not correct. Called uncle and he said must hack the wall and asked me if I can accept or now. I soft hearted told me no choice lor.

MBR bathroom drainage as suspected was not correct. The drainage was done on the opposite side of the rain shower. That means when taking shower, the water is flowing behind me and that's where the entrance is. Uncle say he will check but don't think he will rectify it because need to hack the floor.

The team at my place was held up due to the late delivery of my kitchen tiles.. suppose to complete mine on tuesday but we decided to add on wall tiles for kitchen, suppose to finish wall tiles by today but tiles not delivered.... so wherever this group is going to will be held up.

hi Gaku,

i would suggest you ask Uncle to amend all the mistakes else u would really regret everytime u see it. For us also, we soft heart and tell uncle we accept how the tiles were done in my MBR toilet. The head tiler also gave us a 'reason' why they were layed vertically instead of horizontally and so we sorta accept it. but when i view the pics of smallboy's kitchen and familyof4's kids' bathroom tiles (we all used the same tiles) , they are laid horizontally like how we wanted it. now i still feel kinda sad lor.

i think the head tiler was just trying to convince us to accept then.

so i think u better call up uncle and tell him u r very upset and also hope tat the progress can be alot faster! ask him to rectify all the changes also. seems like most of ur stuffs r done incorrectly, be firm lah. else more n more 'mistakes' will jus piled up like our case and towards e end u can only 'slowly accept'. all e best!

ashes: I did ask Uncle to rectify the problems today but he admitted that he forgotten to tell the tiler and asked me if I can accept. Since I agreed already I should not go back on my words. Those that I cannot accept, like the colour he said he will change it.

For the drainage he will check tomorrow. I reckon he has to remove the floor tiles so that the leveling is correct. It will be too much work and that's why I don't think he will change. I believe he will ask me can accept or not. Right now I am still thinking about it.

I also asked him can finish tiling this week or not and he told me should be able. Now one toilet 80%, the other toilet 60% done, kitchen wall tile 80%, the rest haven't start yet. Can really finish all in a day?

pet: I have not met the workers yet because usually evening time, nobody is there. When I last check during lunch time, also nobody there. Judging for the work done, I guess there is only one or two workers there. Each day only about tiling of 2 or 3 walls. Some days no work done.

Ivy: I don't think it's only today but most days. I believe maybe only 2 workers.

Gaku: For the area that you've accepted the error, I agree with you that it's not right to go back on your words.

What I suggest is that if possible, you take half day leave in the morning to sort out the drainage issue with the tiler. If the drainage is really in the opposite direction, they need to hack off the tiles and then level the cement so that it flows towards the other side.

Regarding tiling, mine took 6 days for kitchen and 1 toilet. You can track my progress in my blog and then gauge for yourself the time that would be taken. For my unit, there were 3 tilers for 5 days and 2 tilers for the last day (today). By right, if the tilers are assigned to a unit, they have to stay there and complete the unit (because they are paid by per square foot area that they tiled).

An alternative to the wrongly tiled wall, ask Uncle if it's ok to overlay the wall with new tiles. In that way, you will minimise the hacking and still get the desired results. Uncle will save on hacking costs but top up on the overlay and tiles, which would be less costly.

Just a closing note, wall tiles are harder to tile because they have to be stuck vertically and in small sections. Floor tiles are faster, so don't be too upset because once it's started, it's quite fast

i think e drainage change is a must, it'll cause u a lot of prob and it'll look v weird!

my progress was v slow too, i went down twice everyday, noon and evening. and i know they work 2 days rest 3 days tat kind, was quite upset and called up Uncle then things start to move a bit faster. got to nudge Uncle a bit, say got certain 'good' dates ur FS master say must meet. hehe

Did you include hacking alone or just tiling for 6 days? If tiling alone, mine is 5th day and now only wall tiles of toilets and kitchen half-completed and one toilet floor complete. I am not sure if the tiler will be assigned to only one unit.

For the wrong tile, uncle admitted he forgot about it and will rectify. So I will leave it to him.

Thanks for the consolation, about two weeks into the reno and the progress doesn't seem fast as what others here have experience. I was told my whole reno can be completed in 3 weeks and so I give another week buffer.

I have always reminded him everytime we meet if he can meet the dateline and he always assure me. I was assured me that tiling definitely can finished this week and uncle wanted to arrange meeting me on the piping and Jason on carpentry. When check with him yesterday he told me he need to check. I guess he has check on my place for sometime. Frankly I am losing confidence as there are also external pressure. People around also blame that I should have paid another thousand more just to have piece of mind.

I am not moving in because of FS but I need to vacate my current place by 31st May because new tenant is moving in on the 1st June. That's is why I am very stressed up. Now my mover is chasing me for the date on the shifting and I couldn't confirm with them.

Most likely option would have to rent another flat within my block but rental rate of $500 a week is quite expensive. I will be really upset if I have to spend $$ on rental if uncle don't delivery on time.

The entire tiling works took 6 days. Hacking took 2 days including haulage and I have to help them do the haulage !

I'm still waiting for electrician and plumber to come. Uncle told me that electrician will come at 9am but he's no where in sight as of now. Plumber suppose to come in around noon but I guess he will fly me aeroplane as well ...

hey gaku, ignore those ppl who are saying that you shd have paid another thousand more just to have piece of mind. even if you really got an ID, there's no guarantee that it will be easier. personally, i think that since you have given your job to uncle, you must have faith in him. perhaps find out the reason why these are happening and solve it together with him? just my 2 cents' worth
