hi joseph, same as us... almost direct west only saving grace is that when there is not much sun, its pretty windy.

we installed solar film fm 3M - prestige range just for the west-facing windows - there is still sunlight coming in, of course - tt part bobian. but heat reduction is effective. not 100%, but there is a distinct difference

I also been searching for window shield. I got quoted for sunshield brand non-reflective. I think its was something like 73% heat rejection. I was told there are those with 1mm thickness and 2mm thickness. 2mm cost more. I was quoted SGD6.5 for the 2mm.

Anyone used this brand before?

If I am not wrong, all solar film comes with the specifications. So as long as we choose the ones with higher heat rejection, it should be good enough. And I do not want to want to pay such a high price for those like 3M which cost about $15 per sqft.

quality comes at a price. i believe the $15/sqft is for the high-end one, which allows u to see thru at night even when light is on.

this is a feature which other brands will not have.

I've just installed the solar film, for my 4rm, all windows except kitchen. I do agree with Batman it's the " x " amount of time and the amount paid( justified ). Even for cars they provide lifetime warranty but after 3-4years you can notice the colour starts to fade.

Hi all,

i had a solar film (brand is "Basic") which i had bought from HomeFix DIY shop and i installed it myself.

It cost $35 for a pcs (2m X 3m). You can cut it to fit your own window size.

Heat Rejection is 86% and light visibility is 14%.

I find it pretty effective; the metal grille feels warm for the panel with the film. The metal grille for the panel without the film feels much hotter. It reduces the glare very much as well.

However, it is hard to see things outside the window at night when the light in the room is on.

Installation is pretty easy. i took 30 mins to cut the film and put up a panel (2m X 1.5m).

Can check out HomeFix at AMK Hub, they have samples on the shelf for you to see how dark or reflective the different grades of film will appear.

I wanted to change my existing window films as it has rainbow effect [just like oil on ground after rain will give you the circular streak of rainbow pattern] at night when room lights are turned on. I wondered whether this is a normal phenomenon as I was told by the installer this is caused by the scratch resistant coat on the film itself? Do all films have such phenomenon. Can anyone comment on this matter? Appreciate it. Thanks.

i'm using the brand "Basic" DIY window film and i do not see such phenomenon at night. My film simply looks reflectively from the inside at night, which is expected.

I'm getting Perfect Windows to come down to my place to fix on 20th. It cost total $300 for the whole house and it has 5 years warranty period. I also asked Sun X to come to my place to quote...very exp.

bro, i am also looking into perfect windows, seems quite genuine, but what is the result so far after you install their film? is it a lot better?? cos huper optik film does seem to be a lot thicker and more reliable, but also **** ex. so now deciding should i spend that money or not. would appreciate any advise. thanks

There is this company at Toa Payoh...... Basic Necessities.

They have several types to choose from.

Was quoted S$2.50 per sqft with installation.

Price quoted is for minimum 200sqft to lay.

Warranty 7 years.

Wonder if this is good enough.

Window film is quite useful to myself and I get a quote from 3M and V Kool,the price is sky high, and another sales came in with same specification of film with lower price, of cos he did a comprehensive film testing before I signed with him. You may look for him to compare too,
