Hacking Broken Marble Is Waste?

Recommended Posts

ericivy79's marble gouting is has a darker colour than aijo's. From the picture, it makes the room very dark and messy. If I were u, I would hack it even if it's gold. But seriously, don't keep something if it's going to cause you any regrets later on. Coz home is a place where u need to feel comfortable. And flooring is most important coz it comes before any other renovations, so u need to think carefully.

You can consider overlay, but need to take note of the permissible ruling for floor-to-ceiling height.

if u decided to keep. like someone suggested, go direct to contractor will save u quite abit. Coz ID will sure take a bite. + this kinda thing needs little coordination. Just ask ID to stopwork on a weekend, before any carpentry goes up, to do the polishing. Normally ID don't work on weekends. And polishing is almost noiseless... so u can ask the polisher to work on weekend.

i agree with hihihi that ericivy79's broken marble is a little messy look becos of the dark lines. Would be touch choice over hacking or keeping, since marble is really much better alternative to homogeneous tiles, which the grouting can be a pain to maintain.

I would have overlay with laminated flooring. That's my personal choice n preference. :)

Hi Ericivy,

Polishing usually come last in a renovation, do not hurry to commit. Should get a few quotation from outside to compare what your IDs/contractors gave you.

For best result, be there when these people are polishing so that you can check and ask them to touch up some areas.

I found this on google http://www.aclass.com.sg

Hi Pbtgal,

Thanks thanks!

Hi pbtgal,

What's the cost quoted to you for polishing? The IDs I spoke to quoted from a range of $650 to $1200 for polishing the marble at the living room! The more ex one mentioned that its because he has to use a diamond cutter machine to grind the marble first before dunno what else.. then polish. Main claim is that this one, the shine will be brighter and last longer. He gave illustration of car polish... 3 step including waxing and polishing.. vs 1 step.

Frankly, I'm not sure if its all gimmicks or that should be the standard.

He claims that te $600 quotes are for simple buffing/polishing using those wax/polishing machines that shopping centres use to polish/was their floors.

Anyone can explain this? And what's the real market rate?

thanks alot in advance.

4 room should be around 600 plus and diamond cut plus all the steps.... 1200 is chop carrot.

Frankly, I agreed that it is really messy for broken marble and old design but it will last and easy maintenance.

To replace or not depends on how deep your pocket is. For me i will make do with it if no budget. If have budget, replace it with full marble.

ya, if got budget, go for either full marble or granite. A trustworthy contractor or ID would advise one to retain the marble even if there's some parts broken as it can be polished to make it natural again and the broken parts would not be visible. Need alot of work to mend the broken parts as that's what happened to my friend's place. Wow, the end results was amazing.

Ask your ID/contractor to do patching for the cracks before polishing. This will make it more harder to see the cracks. :D
