B&b's Love Nest @ Bishan

BLUM Showroom

Ubi Biz Hub (Ubi Ave 4)

This avenue has absolutely no bus! Not to mention a freaking hot Fri afternoon  Later found out Ave 3 has bus 58 to/from Bishan.

BLUM was relocating from 3rd to 2nd floor when I reached there. The original showroom was still intact. (heard the new showroom next month will be better)

Despite being busy relocating, one staff attended to my queries. I was given a very big BLUM woven bag, brochures and one big fat like encyclopedia product & technical guide! (probably not the latest - maybe I become garang guni?)

[Door Hinges]

Click: BLUM Website - BLUMOTION for doors

- spring vs non-spring (non spring goes well with tip-on)

- clip on blumotion vs standalone blumotion

- hinges of different degrees

[Drawer Systems]

Click: BLUM Website - Drawer Systems

[Runners]

- Single extension (drawer does not open fully)

- Full extension (drawer opens fully - recommended)

Beware! Some actual parts (claimed to be BLUM) which I've seen before does not exist in BLUM catalog or either it is very very old model.

If you interested in BLUM, I urge you to understand your product well. Visit the showroom if you have the chance.

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

Just a freaking hot day!!!

And I walked from Bras Brasah Office to Jalan Besar :jawdrop: *hot hot*

Only visited Royal Fanco - Henry's price really reasonable as compared to Eestilo De Vida.

Took a bus back to office then starting sneezing and eyes turning sore - must be the road dust!!!

The Hunt

Since 9th May, HTB and I have been inviting a handful of contractors and a ID to visit our place.

In chronological order,

Contractor A

- Read from RT Forum

- Very cool (almost expressionless) and patient

- Everything ok to do yet will remind us what is more expensive to do

- Quotation: Well itemised and reasonable

Contractor B

- Read from RT Forum

- Doesn't seem to give any valuable inputs

- Anything that is not height, told us to buy from shops

- Has projects in Malaysia

- Quotation: Not much details; More expensive than A on the same items (no company name somemore! first to strike out!)

Contractor C

- Recommended by colleague

- ID cum Branch Manager with a different view of finishing

- Quotation: Most expensive

Contractor D

- Read from RT Forum

- Cheaper alternatives available for kitchen

- Easy to communicate

- Quotation: Close to of A

Contractor E

- Through friend

- By this time, I was really really "sick" of repeating my requirements :P

- Quotation: A few missing items

Only Contractor A and C have their quotes revised twice. A still beat everyone hands down in terms of attitude and positive feedback from others.

Most importantly, the price is reasonable too.

Now waiting for Contractor A to revise version 3 and we are almost ready to proceed! Wooohooo exciting!

Estimated Renovation Duration: 1.5 to 2 months (From June onwards)

The chosen one: Contractor A - Henry from Impress21 :D

HTB and I find him comfortable to work with. Not to mention he is RDAC licensed.

Will be signing on the dotted line on Wed!

Wooohooo!

Bulky Items Removal

HTB and I spent a few hrs on Sun dismantling furniture. Tiring but we had fun with my dad's Bosch drill.

A small light bulb will be turned on whenever the drill is activated. Very useful when drilling dark corners.

For those who are unaware, you can give Town Council three working days' notice to remove bulky items from outside your unit.

Removal only on weekdays between 2-4pm.

This service is FOC! =)

Hmmm who else did you approach? In fact Henry's quotation is more reasonable compared to Yeak and Soon.

Of course, I'm comparing the same items.

My requirements are quite specific and Henry itemised every detail possible.

I would set up a spreadsheet to document my requirements then counter check against quotation details.

@newnyew

The entire showroom activated by servo drive.

I'm not sure about the energy comsuption but you may want to take these 2 pts into consideration:

1) If there's no electricity, you can only open your drawers from bottom (servo drive cabinets usually handle-less)

2) I have a tendancy to lean against the kitchen edge. I keep activating the servo drive to open the drawer unintentionally. Initially I was really freaked out >.<"

I was at Ikea Tampines over the weekend and found that Ikea Rationell to look like old model of tandem box. The design is exactly the same and through web search, someone did found "BLUM tandembox" engraved (cant find any proof that it is indeed BLUM though).

Nonetheless, all ikea soft closing hinges are from BLUM. Nuff said?

The price of SS @ Welmi or Hoe Kee can easily buy 2 small Ikea Rationell Drawers for 40cm width cabinets.

Henry advised discussion with carpertner before I proceed to make any purchase because Ikea items are made to fit their Faktum cabinets.

Anyway I will still buy BLUM hinges | KIV on other parts (staff from BLUM provided me with the model no) from the authorised dealers. Yet to call though.

Are you referring to Henry as the one who did up your colleague's condo?

Anyway I wasn't quoted by Ah Soon. His disciple Alan quoted me.

But seeing the QC problem lately, confidence level reduced.

His quotation also poorly itemised and some even more expensive than Henry!

No problem newnyew =)

You may want to check whether they have relocated their showcase from 3rd to 2nd yet. Otherwise wasted trip =(

I was told their showcase next mth will be better.

I was given a brochure on servo drive. Let me see if I can get any useful information for you tonight =)
