tee hee... seeing the careful work of the workers who worked on your house, makes me feel safe that our future house will be in the same hands! ;)

Hi Amrasenelya,

The plumbers are quite ok. They will wrapped up all the taps, w.c. and basins after the installation at the bathrooms. Quite nice worker also. :D

Updates on Tv console:

We didn't really spent alot of time planning for our TV console cause we just wanted the common simple design. Its only until the carpentry discussion that we realised, though simple and common, there's alot of constraints with the design we wanted.

Our initial thoughts was to do the front part with full black glass to achieve the sleek and seamless look. But the carpenter highlighted that the glass are heavy so we will need to do a aluminium frame for support. But doing the frame would not be able to achieve the seamless look that we wanted. We did asked if he can 'paste' the glass on the front part. But the carpenter was concerned about the constant 'flapping-down' which can cause impact to the glass.

In addition, the black glass that we are thinking of, is actually black mirror. The carpentry also highlight that remotes will not be able to go through. Another blow to us on our initial design as we didnt consider this aspect. Hence, we had to change the design on the spot.

We didnt really know how the black clear glass look like. The carpenter kept highlighting that the stuff inside the console will be visible from the front. I was quite concerned about this as I don't know if it will look ugly if all the electronic gadgets were to be visible. We could go for black mirror, but that would means always having to open the console if we want to use the remote. That might be quite a hassle and danger as we might knock into them. Hence, we went for the black clear glass with crossed fingers.

For the design wise, we also had to change it. Instead of having a full piece of glass infront, we'll have the glass in the centre. The common practise to do flap-down console was to do a 45degree on the console flap for our fingers to open the console. But by doing so, the center black glass will be 'smaller' as allowance need to be given for the top section wood. Hence, hb suggested to make the flap all the way and skip the 45degree. Slightly more difficult to open the console but we thought should be ok since we only need to open when we need to add new gadget or to clean it.

For the laminates, we thought of topping up to use those solid core laminates to avoid those black line at the joints. Both my contractor and carpenter advise us against using those solid core as they don't think it worthwhile to top for them. Besides the sides of those solid core are yellow and not truely white. Hence, we decided to use the normal white gloss laminates and my carpentry will dot off those black lines.

Really crossing all our fingers for our console since the day we confirmed the design. After the installation, we are glad that it turned out ok.

Here's the pics~ hee.. :D

The console before installation.

Here's the side view of the console. Hee.. the carpenters managed to install it with my huge mountain infront. I also don't know how they managed to do it. :)

3 hinges per flap. Quite ok when we flap them.

Rasp,

You have a good carpenter!

Do check with your carpenter on the number of screws they drilled this console to the wall. As it is a suspended console, I do hope you had highlighted to your carpenter the number of gadgets that you are going to house and/or will be sitting on top the console. It is important to have the right screw support the weight of all your gadgets.

A lesson learned from my carpenter - some HDB walls are not solid 'brick' enough to hold screws especially walls outside the kitchen area.

Thanks Reiki,

Er... both of us are not around when the tv console is installed. The wall for my feature wall should be quite sturdy cause the lifts are right behind it. :D

As for the screws.. umm.. can only hope that they had used enough screw for it, since its already up. But most probably, we wont have much stuff in the console cause our Tv will be mounted to the feature wall. Infact, our Tv had came in yesterday to prepare for the miotv installation today. The feature wall look quite ok with the mounted Tv. Will post the pics later. :D

The Singnet guys just came to install the modem. Hee.. Hb brought my pc over to test out the internet. Seems good. Hee.. can surf forum from my place now.

Updates on Tv console:

Continue from above..

Hee.. we finally managed to catch the full view of our console on the day of marble polishing. Here's our simple and common console. :) Hee.. Instead of hiding that 'tube' inside the feature wall/console, we leave it outside. Look ok to us, actually its only visible from the balcony view. We didnt want to hide it cause of our concerns about future checks/ removal of it.

P1040072.jpg

Here's the front view. Cant really see that 'tube' in the background. :)

P1040095.jpg

Our Tv just arrived 2 days ago. Hb planned for the Tv delivery just 1 day before the singnet installation so that we can use them to test the miotv. This is the bracket behind the Tv. We also took a pic of those sockets behind the tv, so that we can roughly know the points in future after the Tv is mounted.

Here's our console with the Tv mounted on the feature wall. Hee.. yes, those untidy lots are my barang barang which have now shifted and residing at the balcony. :D

Hee.. snapped a pic after the miotv installation yesterday. Cant wait to move back to enjoy the shows.

Good Morning Red_devil,

Thanks. Hee.. really good to know that you like reading my blog.

Umm.. guess still ok for us cause we planned to have the whole week to slowly clean up the place and put the stuff in order. The floor are roughly clean now and we are bringing around 2 bags home each day to unpack slowly. Hee.. so far still ok. :)

Im the one who is for the throwing while hb's the one who like to keep. Anyway, we have packed once (ie. when we shifted out of our current place), so we have passed this dilemma. Now is more about.. where to put this and where to keep that.

No problem, Kopi.

This is really useful cause when the miotv guy came to install, he wanted to use those yellow/white/red socket at the side of the tv as they are easier to access. But hb thought of keeping the side ones for other plug and play gadgets. So he had to poke them at the back himself after the guy went off. He just look at the pic and managed to poke them at the right holes. Hee.. :D

hihihi Morning!

I think I will have a big problem...most likely I will be transporting some stuffs that we can carry from Kallang to Yishun as and when we go there. I think I will need to crawl there. lols. Hmm..don't like the feeling of engaging a lorry and packing all my stuffs and go. I think my parents will feel kinda of sad. I told them.. I am going to still put some items in the house and come back to sleep occasionally! heehee

Wah come to think of it i think i better do the same also

must find 后路 for myself hehehehe :P

Good Morning,

Hahaa.. I just read about the 后路 thingy. You guys are quite funny.

When we first moved out from our parents' place, we also didnt engage the lorry. Just took 1-2 shopping bags each time. Cause didnt have much to shift over except for clothes and some personal items.

For our reno this time, we leave most of those big items (such as bed frame, cupboards) at the site and shifted out those small items. Despite that, we still have around 20-30 bags of stuff. Hee.. and for this time, the bag we used were those 'china' lookalike bag with the zipper on top kind.

Think most will engaged movers if they have furnitures (such as cupboard, bed, sofa) or alot of barang barang (such as electronics, books, kitchen stuff, ie. pot/pans, utensils). For us, we only engaged the mover to shift 1 queen mattress, bedframe and sofa as we are giving them off. The 20-30 china bags, we d.i.y. ourselves. hee.. :D
