Rasp 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Hmm thought of doing L shape kitchen? Sink adjacent to chute. Then you place the washing machine behind the wall. This layout is pretty common and quite feasible. Plan by dividing your kitchen into 5 areas: 1) Consumables 2) Non-comsumables 3) Washing 4) Preparation 5) Cooking I really write down what I put in this or that storage while I brainstorm. Visited Ikea many times...hee At this stage, you need to be cool headed. Not important skip first. Brainstorm your needs. Hihi XBB, We are doing a straight kitchen cabinet. So the worktop quite constraint, especially when we have a full height cabinet at one end also. But I have a small facing worktop opposite it (next to fridge), to put applicances, such as rice cooker, kettle etc. I'll share the kitchen layout later. Yup yup... need to be cool headed now. Super duper thanks for all the great advices!
Rasp 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Indeed i am oso profounded by this. What the rational of having a instant heater in common toliet and a storage heater in MBR toilet ? Issit to avoid unesssary pipings ? a 35L jovan can easily support both toilet water needs without any problem. Yes, currently my place also have 1 storage heater in MBR bathrm and 1 instant heater in common bathrm. Afew reasons for having them both, 1) to avoid unnecessary pipings (both my bathrm are separated by the dining area), 2) the switch for the storage heater is in the MBR currently, so if anyone want to bath in common need to walk into the mbr to switch it on which is quite inconvenient for them, 3) I like to bath in hot water, so each time after shampooing my hair, I have to turn the knob to mix in more hot water and by the time I finished, it seems like the hot water almost finish already. Hee.. I only bath for 10-15mins. Thats why prefer not to share with common bathrm, incase anyone bath at the same time, I don't know if there is enough hot water. If both toilets are separated by dining room indeed that can be a headache esp piping.. Think i rem some folks hse was in this manner too... But wow ! 35L is just nice for your shampooing.... pretty scary :X

Then when the water slightly colder after my shampooing, I will adjust it towards the hot side. Usually by the time I finish everything, the mixer is like 3/4 at the hot side. Thats why I scare not enough hot water.
Rasp 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 (edited) Here's my kitchen layout. Just added in the washing machine after last night discussion with my hb. Its the one at the end (opposite the chute). Sorry, I cant seems to find the washing machine logo, so use the other one instead. The other position that we are considering is next to the chute and close to the cabinet ('protruding' inbetween the chute and cabinet). Idea is to make the place look spacious with everything at 1 side. But we thought it might look crampy at the other side. And also whether the smell from the chute will affect the washing machine. Our concern with this position is whether it will look awful as our entrance is a glass sliding door. So to counter that, we will be adding a half height parition thingy beside the washing machine to block the look and yet still kept the light shining into the kitchen. And the 2nd concern is the rain as this position is next to the window. Hb proposed that we can slide and kept the windows to this side at all times. Another good point about this layout is.... we can wash the chute more conveniently, without this washing machine next to it. dyleen 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 Try to leave as much space as you can between the sink and the hob. Fengshui aside, it will be good to have some space where you can place the chopping board or do some food preparation. OT abit. hob and sink must leave a distance, about 60cm if I don't remember wrongly. If too close, it affects the health of the lady staying in the house. cos the hob represents the health of the Lady of the house.
Sheila Ong 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2009 3. 2 LCD TV (42" LG70YR & 32" LH20R) HB decided on these 2 models. Just using the TVs to watch programs, so didnt go for any top-notch models. Think these two should be good enough for us. 4. Sharp Super Steam Oven (AX-1500) We went for this mainly because of its multi-function. It can steam, grill, bake and microwave. We worked out that since we are going to get a microwave, might as well go for this which can microwave as well as steam and bake. Good for saving the worktop space. The 'extra' benefits that come with this oven was it cooks in a healthier way. It reduces fat, calories and salt during cooking. And retains more vitamins in the food. Not sure if they are true. But we certainly hope they are. Wow nice oven!! How much u get it for? More than 1K right?

We bought the new model from Hong Liang, went to those big electrical shop in the mall to look see look see first and found that most of their sales assistants don't know much this product as its still new. The other similar product is under panasonic. Have you went to their cooking class already? Is it fun?
