Our 2nd Home In Bishan

I am always blown away with your drawings. Amazing drawings.

Mould build up is really a BIG concern. In our climate, it is already tough to avoid this problem. If your WIW faces the toilet, I think mould will surely come.

I changed the entrance of my toilet somewhere so that my WIW does not have this problem. I read somewhere in someone's T-blog that toilet together with WIW is not a good idea.

Just my suggestion........ really up to you. :)

Smallboy,

Thanks for the suggestion. The mould build-up is really gonna be a big long-term issue to deal with.

Changing the entrance is definitely an option we've considered, as stated in post #40 (Although it was more to accomodate Wifey's X-Large wardrobe demand :P). Otherwise I think it looks like we'll have to stock the wardrobe with regular changes of Thirsty Hippoes!

I really envy those who have a fully squared-room. Easier to play around. My MBR comes with that angled window and that's kinda like a waste of what could've been a good space.

nice sketches!! if only i can sketch like u, i will be able to visualize my place better. so far uncle hasnt really contributed much ideas, so i am soaking up interior design + home & decor magazines like mad now. :P

hope it goes well for u!

Thanks Aubrey.

I think you've done a pretty good job with the layout of your place yourself! Glad to see your renovation with Ah Soon's going on well and that you're enjoying the process. :) Uncle said he'll call me this week to talk about the quote, but I think he's too busy and forgotten me once again. *Sigh*

The interior design and home decor mags are really a huge help. I do spend some time at Borders browsing through and noting the ideas in my head and if there's lots of nice stuff, I'll just buy the mag. I think I've seen some issues that feature homes with the same layout as yours done up quite nicely - There's one in the current issue of Lookbox. :)

Thanks for the compliments.

Just curious, mind sharing what concerns you and your hubby had with regards to this sort of concept?

The only thing I'm worried about is the possibility of mould build-up, but not sure if I've missed out on any cons. :)

besides mould, he is very concern about dust problem. I knw even normal type of wardrobes will have this problem...he is also worried about the sunlight being blocked etc...cos my layout is not really an ideal layout for me to have a WIW...

Do you think Hippo helps?

Hi Adrian! Glad to see your drawings again. I think this alternative layout for the MBR is a good one! I would definitely opt for that one. But one very impt thing is that there is sufficient space between the bed and TV wall. Otherwise having to bump against the bed frame is a torturous thing...

I guess having the Thirsty Hippo does help a little although I don't think it'll completely absorb all moisture 100% as the effectiveness of the Hippo will diminish over time, and the headache part is to dilligently monitor and change. But I suppose, having it is better than not. Humidity coupled with use of Air-con will definitely put alot of moisture in the air. I won't be leaving the wardrobe exposed, will still shut it with doors as an additional measure. Hope it works. :)

Had some spare time today so decided to do another sketch while I still have the inspiration.

This time its for my wife's beloved kitchen. This visualisation is more for the rear of the kitchen - The service balcony.

Proposing to have a wet/wash area where I can soak stuff, put the pails etc. At the same time, box up the unsightly sanitary pipes if possible. Lining the wall will be most of the appliances - Washing Machine, Tall Cabinet and Fridge. I just realised, I left out a portion of the cabinet where the mirowave and built-in oven should be, and its supposed to be before the fridge. But oh well .... what's sketched in ink cannot be unsketched .... :(

Hi Pet,

Yes, I think this layout's probably the best way forward as it gives sufficient space all round for movement and minimises the 'cramped' feeling. There'll be enough space for TV wall and its a good thing it kinda makes full use of the rear of the wardrobe. Sadly, with this layout, poor wifey won't get her super long wardrobe. But I suppose an alternative is to build a separate wardrobe perhaps in the study where she can put the 'lesser-used' stuff and other misc items.

Adrian. My first visit to your blog, finally had some time to "roam around".

I know you have heard this hundreds of times, but your sketches are fantastic!

Those 3D views of the entire room is stunning. :D

mmm My sister and I share clothing but as she's not around often, I brought the stuff that I thought I would wear more often into my room. But every morning, I still find myself walking to her room. whahah :) Doesn't really help matters. I do hope your wife's more decisive than me. :)

I think this layout is neater and provides a cleaner look to the room.

Updated version of Post #40, depicting an alternative layout which sees a smaller wardrobe with an integrated TV wall, and a more efficient use of space.

The wardrobe now lines parallel to the MBR Bathroom wall and in a sense, becomes somewhat of a WIW. Only worry is mould but I guess this is the most practical idea for the limited room area. A top-down floor plan is also embedded in the visual for easy reference.

Any suggestions are as usual, always welcome.

@Pinklady

Thanks for the compliments. Er no lah, cannot become part-time ID. I think my sense of dimensions and proportions are always out, and I'm hopeless with specifics. I can only use sketches to visualise and get a rough idea. :)

Haven't been able to do much sketching. Spent the last couple of days doing this one bit by bit.

Its a refreshed version of my earlier initial sketch as per post #9 of the Foyer and Dining Area.

Now with a picture reference, I think the proportion and space is slightly more accurate.

To make the space look bigger, I'll dispense with the intial idea of a swivel TV wall. Instead, I'm thinking of putting a full height wall mirror next to the dining area. Shoe cabinet is of course a must to cater to my wife's shoes, and if possible, a suspended cabinet across it to put stuff and maybe store miscellaneous items like letters etc. To save money, I'll recycle my current Bonaldo glass-top extendable dining table from XZQT(although I wish I could get a clear glass table and clear acrylic chairs!), but will get a set of 4 dining chairs, of which I've shortlisted at S&C. If budget permits, a storage cabinet would be ideal at the dining area - I can use these to store my wine/liquor and the crystal glasses, and maybe even some plates and cutlery. Lighting-wise, not sure if I should just be simple and stick to normal PLCs, or buy one of those fancy lights.

My next attempt will be to do a better focused sketch on the Foyer itself, showing options for the shoe cabinet.

Do feel free to share feedback and comments.

In the meantime however, I think the reno process will be a little stuck. I still haven't heard from Ah Soon for 2 weeks now, and I know he's really busy with quite a number of jobs this week. Thus, I'm unable to really have an accurate gauge as to the kind of budget I need to set aside. I really hope he does call me and gets back to me soon with his quote. We're anxiously waiting.

huh. I do feel a little upset for you... Why don't you try contacting Yeak too? He seems quite reliable and did a nice job for Angel and roamca. Anyway it's always good to have a few quotes to compare. :)
