Retrospectrum Meets Modernisation!

Recommended Posts

aubrey, I once checked with Uncle on the material used. I asked if it is solid plywood, he says he uses that and it is from indonesia, so it is more durable. Cos if he is not,I do not mind to top up, I just wanted better quality that would last longer.

Best not to make more guesses. Ask Uncle to go and check is better. Sometimes we are worried that the sub-con did not follow uncle's instructions?

Yes, I think it is good that uncle go take a look and be aware of what's happening on the ground.

Below is a picture of solid ply just for anyone insterested. By the way, can pm me who is your carpenter.

just called uncle. he said the worktop is a standard thickness of 20mm / 2cm and the "legs" is 15mm / 1.5cm. and the weight of the granite worktop is borne by the legs and not the worktop. somehow still worrying to know that what is to support my worktop is 0.5cm thinner.

he said i can stand on it after its installed to try it out myself. im still not assured somehow. i told him to come over at night 8/9 plus to take a look, today i will chase him.

judging from the pic, i can say my material is not solid plywood. if so and uncle did say he uses solid plywood, wonder what's his explanation here. haiyer!

sigh. i think i will have to really debate with uncle. i am just hoping he wont tell me that the blockboard is solid plywood now that i am informed. how about other wood works? are tv console/wardrobes meant to use blockboard or solid plywood?

aubrey: My carpenter told me he only uses solid plywood. I did ask him during our meeting yesterday and he understand my concern about the short cuts. I was given the assurance all carpentry he uses only solid plywood for all the work.

hi aubrey, i agree with gaku....actually all carpentry generally use solid plywood(the correct ones of cos), mine carpentry is also solid plywoodwith mutli-crossed layered.

those blockboards or lower grade plywood are meant for ready made cheap n simple furniture. Its more for ppl who are staying in 2rooms with a more tight budget.

Hmm .. don't be so upset, just talk to Uncle.

I am not sure what wood they used on my kitchen cabinet becos the exposed parts are cover with white pvc.

But I know the other day when they were dismantling part of it, the guys were standing on top of the bottom cabinet and it was ok.

In fact, when I was cleaning it, I also stand on it too (and i am not that light :P ).

The thickness of the panel is about there, if you want, I can go back and measure later
