Smallboy 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) hi Aubrey, glad you have something you are comfortable with. Just a thought. If you have that set of drawers at the corner, will it be difficult to open if someone standing there washing plates or things? Just a thought if there are 2 persons working in the kitchen. 1 standing at the sink area, 1 standing at the stove cooking. So as to minimize "excuse me"...... blocking should you need to open those drawers to reach your sauces. Just my thought. but go ahead with what is comfortable for you. oh, btw, the pull out sauce steel rack is less than 80. Ask the carpentry guy to buy for you. Cheaper that way. pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 wah Wendy and Aubrey nice drawings and plannings... So will you be able to stop the carpentry people Aubrey? I think the pull out spice racks are good and very impt to have to organise the space properly. As for the drawer unit you may not need for it to be so wide... I was wondering... if your mom doesn't want to cook under the beam would she want to prepare food under it? *curious*

aubrey 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 hey guys i have spoken to the carpentry guy and he says its done! so its hard to change!! and plus my wall where the cabinet is has this uneven surface! so if u refer to my drawing, the area where the stove is, on the left portion, its where my spice rack is. on the right, its where my gas cylinder is. so.. based on the above, the space on the left where my spice rack will be is where the swing out shelf is located. he said the uneven wall in there, so if i were to do drawers it will be shallow. any ideas if i shld still get drawers? the area on the left of the fridge is where my pull out drawers are, thank god!!! pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 HUH... ok.... mm but shallow drawers will really be useless to you... thankfully there IS a set of drawers in your kitchen... It's really up to you ba... if you're ok with the format? Look at it again and plan where will you put which stuff and whether it's enough... I did think of something... you know the area at the L-shape near your window? I know that's where your rubbish chute is.. but you can have a full height cabinet there... bottom for the rubbish chute.. then top portions you can put stuff... non-edible ones of course... familyof4 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 Pet's suggestion is good. my carpentry is only starting today. But I made my changes yesterday already Hope your will turn out just as good
aubrey 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) based on your idea pet, it sounds good but i am concerned with the sun shining on it. plus i cant cos that's where my bamboo pole hanger is. i like drawers but yes, it will be shallow. to fully maximize i cant get drawers. dilemma! in the image, u can see the uneven wall. that means i will only have a set of drawers at the bottom. so sad. pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 mm I realise with my suggestion it would slightly block your window a little... it's possible to protect your cabinet if your sunshine comes in from the right side... ask uncle to help put a panel or something. But if it comes from the left... then it'll be hard. BUT then.. it'll shine the rest of the cabinets anyway... mm I only have one set of drawers too.. and no upper cabinets.. so far it's usable for us... familyof4 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 how about a small cabinet up to window's height to maybe store detergent, insectide and stuff? with detergent smell think the pests will be lesser there too?
aubrey 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 actually i have allocated the area under the sink to place detergents and the like there. so i can keep the area there clear. plus when my mom orders in extra gas cylinder to standby, i intend to stash it near the rubbish chute. 1 qns, for the base where your kitchen cabinets are placed on, does uncle tile that part for u? so far he just tiles the edges that will be seen but not on top, meaning its bare cement then cabinet placed on top. is that the same for u guys? (cos i have lots of neighbours psycho-ing my mom to get it tiled so if the cabinet gets removed, the base is still nicely intact but i think its not needed)
familyof4 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 even my previous place the tiles were not tiled on the top of the base. I do not think it is necessary as we do not really renovate the place so frequently right? een if we do, after removing the exiting cabinets, we'll have new one on top right? Reiki 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 pet i am ks. more storage does not hurt, but as it is my shelf space is really really limited cos of my tight space. i wanted a pantry to store dried food, biscuits etc but looks like there's no way. my mom wanted to store 2 gas cylinders! 1 for cooking 1 for standby, i voiced out against her (with the help of jason ) so i managed to convince her to standby a tank when its close to running out (how to tell i wont know..) About gas cylinder Using gas cylinder is new to me. I was told by friends that the temperature on the cylinder tank will give an indication of the level of gas available. When your stove is running, ie you are cooking something, place your palm on the tank. There will be a difference in temperature. Where it is cold, that is why the gas is. pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) mm the top of my base was not tiled too.. I think it'll be kinda of odd to have it tiled right? Even if it's remove... I don't think we'll just leave it empty... mm So it's ok la. Oh. the gas cylinder ah.. if it's low on gas it wouldn't be so powerful. People who cook will be able to sense. My dad used to do it all the time. Edited May 20, 2009 by pinkpetter

This is because if I leave the place untiled, it would be very difficult to maintain if I decide to remove all the cabinets one day. Anyway, this is already part of the cost
