Retrospectrum Meets Modernisation!

i chose new tiles from LSH! upload them later at home. have been busy going around to see tiles and packing the house. so far so good, cant wait for the laminates etc to come. i have some ideas in mind for my carpentry. i drew it out by hand, still no time to play with google sketchup. :P

oh yes, hows your backsplash like? i am still confused with these terms.

YAY please show us. LSH does have a wider selection. mmm

Where the counter touches the wall and turns upwards to protect the base portion of the wall... that part of the counter is called a backsplash. :)

ya let me crop and post here, pic size is huge! anyway, what is your backsplash called? S/S?

currently packing and slowly shifting all our stuff next door now. cant wait to start yet dont feel like starting reno. to be exact, i have less than a week, have not chosen any paint colours, have not shopped for the hob/hood/oven etc. have not even met jason to draw and plan the kitchen. dont want to buy things to realise that it cant go with my kitchen. i had better meet him first to prevent mistakes. :dunno:

oh yes, can anyone tell me where is a good place to go for buying rinnai hob? i think i shall just buy both hob & hood from rinnai to save myself some trouble. i dont think i will ask uncle to help buy for me as brought up by him, he's simply too busy.

also, which brand of convection oven is good? i saw a white ariston one in ikea, it will look nice with my white cabinets but does anyone know where else to get ovens? preferably white. :P

FOr rinnai, you can go to best denki. Can earn NTUC link points. Alternatively, can go to Goh Ah Bee, etc. Maybe price will be better? call them up and ask.

yes, they're at hougang. i got most of my electrical supplies there as they're one of the cheapest. good service and prompt delivery. they also give discounts if you buy more.

does goh ah bee sell sinks and stuff?? i dont think so right.. in that case, is it better for me to buy all in place (the above mentioned plus toilet bowl, rain shower, sink, taps etc etc) so i can leverage for better price? :dunno:

Nope no website. The number and address you can find out from yellowpages, etc.

What you should do is to go to best denki, etc to look at the items you want. Take down the model number, colours, price. Then call them up for a quote or you can go down. THey don't have much stuffs there as space is limited. Only catalogs.

For sink, etc, I bought my sink and WC at Genova Industries. Franke sink + tap - $288. Baron WC + sink + tap - $388. The taps, etc also bought from Genova. The lady serving us was quite good. Gave some discounts. PM me if you need the details. Happy shopping.

Aubrey.

I got my rinnai hob/hood set from Chuan Heng (along Jalan besar, opposite Poh Joo). First approached PJ, then CH, I told them PJ's price, they matched that with another $30 off. :P

Find out the permissible sizes first, then you can start shopping and comparing price now, buy when it's nearer towards carpentry.

Another thing, if you are using 2, don't need to get 3 heads...

I thought the 3rd one could be a standby, but it's not in use all the while, one day I decided to try it and it didn't work because the holes are all covered with grease from cooking ... :(

Do the horror thing I did. :P

My mother was mortified as she was shopping with me for the items.

Pick up all the individual items and ask for individual discounts for every item first. Then you consolidate your purchases, try and see if you can an odd number. From there, you round it down. Like from $1099, down it to $1000 nett. :x

But not many shops has that kind of variety to choose from, different shops carry nicer basins, wc, taps, rain showers. Jalan besar is quite near your place, can drop by with your mum to check it out. :D

i went to audio house that day to see tvs and boy there's a lot to choose from. i cant decide. as for the hood/hob, just read up here and decided to go for rinnai since it's been around for so long and it should be good. just getting the glass hob (cos easier to clean) and chimney hood as i read its better and long lasting.

i dont mind going to take a look first myself, its pretty quick and easy for me. ultimately when it comes to these kitchen stuff, need to get the nod from my mom too. :)

is your franke sink 2 bowl? i hope its matt type. and may i know what is the deal about franke? apart from its brand.. and for WC, is it ok to get just a normal claytan one? the $388 means with the wash basin right? ok let me just check out my area and let u know if i need the details.

we bought EF as the hobs do not have holes underneath the burner. This is good for us as it won't result in spillage to the cabinets below. The Tecno ones cannot be removed so they cannot be cleaned. Turbo ones have holes so they don't work for us either (although we initially wanted to buy them). Shop around and decide as it's still early.

Franke sink - yes double bowl. Choice limited but saw what we need so ok. It's stainless steel. Don't think it's the matte type.

Normal claytan WC? it's personal pref. I actually didn't choose the brand because that's the one on promotion .. haha ... plus it's one-piece with soft closing. Yes. $388 with wash basin and tap. The cheapest WC + sink combo is already $299 without tap. So we're quite happy when we saw the $388 3-in-1 promo. You can see the promotion every sat on straitstimes life section. Genova industries.

Hope it helps.

For WC, i took the cheapest Clayton WC for my common toilet and the flush was kinda weak, as compared to the Baron 1-pc WC i had in my MBR toilet.

i went to jalan besar as i mentioned earlier, only went to adamas and the shop further down. i didnt do much hardcore shopping as we were there quite late. plus we had no knowledge of measurements etc, so when we were approached by the staff and we told them we have no idea about the size, u can imagine the look of disbelief on their faces.

i did call uncle but he said just choose what i want and pass it to him and he will get it for me. >;/ a little torn between the two options: 1) pass all model numbers to uncle for him to get it for us and send straight to our place or 2) we buy and arrange it ourselves. growl!

we're currently using 2. currently on the market it's mostly 3 i see, hardly see two. if i do get 3, i should be able to cover it to protect and prevent such problems like yours right?

My parents' hse is using 2 heads as well... my Dad said I waste $$ for getting 3 heads in my own hse... most of the time, I use 2... one for cooking soup while the other to stir fry... the time when I use the 3rd one is to steam fish/egg/beancurd etc.

I always make it an effort to use each of the head during cooking... just to ensure they are still working :D
