reiki, im trying to go for the zen look but i thought bookcase can do wooden laminate for the bottom portion while my study desk follows the same laminate as my wardrobe. how does that sound?

It sounds good to me. Basically, there will be consistency and you can add colours or 'zen-nise' the surrounding atmosphere/ambience with furnishings.

To have a full glass bookcase gives umph but the problem would be maintenance. Hehehe, basically, it has to look neat and organise inside all the time. It is fine to go for bookcase with wooden laminate for the bottom, aubrey. For the bottom part, you can always store all the odds stationery.

Question!

now the reno is at a standstill till tmr. i have a qns for all, when i first moved back i realised that my bathroom & WC floor tiles are quite slippery. decided to test it first and yes i slipped a bit last night while coming out from the shower.

despite picking tiles that are slightly rough, it is still slippery. any way for either myself or uncle to remedy it?

pet: wait for my before and after pics. real shockers. :D

reiki: i believe both of us like zen feel to our homes! :) my idea of zen is to have more earthy tones while black and white to me leans more to modern simplistic contemporary. so here's the design dilenma. i like bright spaces so i didnt use any earthy colours throughout the house. mostly B&W. now that i have to do the shoe rack in living room, how should i pair the colours?

my sofa is in brown, altar is in dark walnut color, walls is a smoky light grey with white ceiling, floor is whitish and tv console is BW. any ideas for the shoe rack?

cannotisit: in a while after i've cleaned up! oddly i did not seem to have much. let me dig around. cant be so little.

hi aubrey, in the midst of the reno, ah soon learnt to know along the way my hubby is super meticulous, so he said he will give us the best carpenter. so there is a guy who came up to my unit previously with jason to discuss carpentry dimension. he is bespectacled, wears a lot of gold chain, bracelets and look like those long tou lao da (a bit snobbish type), his name is ah di. jason mentioned he is the boss for the carpentry co. is it the same ah di of yours?

but subsequently he didn't appear and my carpentry work was taken by ah wei.

nope. the ah di assigned to me looks nice and very soft spoken to me. he sat down with me for almost 2hrs going 3hrs to discuss the carpentry. not snobbish at all. i still think its best to view his work before i engage him so i dont waste everyone's time, be it uncle or ah di.

01. Aubrey, the first thing that came into my mind reading about the slippery tiles, is the safety of your mum. When you can slip, it is better to caution your mum so that she is very aware of the situation.

I dont think much can be done but maybe uncle can [better] advice you. The only thing is to place anti-slip and a floor mat just outside the bathroom.

02. I prefer consistency in one area. When designing my place, I limited the choice of colours to the custom-made cabinets - since they are permanent fixtures, to maximum 2. Personally, when there are too many, it clutters the area and each cabinet will seem to be screaming for attention.

Look around your living room to decide the colour, aubrey. If you do not want the shoe cabinet to 'scream', perhaps flush it with the colour of your walls or a colour of another cabinet diagonally opposite it [if any].

fannie: aiyo looking at my reno, i think may push it back since my carpentry still pending. so much to clean after that. no place to store so now cleaning also stuck. everything's stuck! maybe late june/ early july. just realised that my excel link is down. >.> dont worry k, i totally understand how you feel. :) im cleaning too and its only a 3 roomer but i feel like its endless.

adrian: i personally think its nothing much yet, still have lots of photos to post once the pending carpentry is in. so gotta wait for that. :) hows everything for u? smooth i hope. will read your tblog soon. :)

reiki: yup my mom's safety is my top concern. im still young so pretty alert if i were to fall, can grab stuff to prevent falls. for her, its harder. gotta speak to uncle. its more of the tiles that are slippery. not sure if he can still apply some anti slip thingy or sthing. gotta speak to him and buy anti slip mat to place outside.

colour wise i think i will just have to try to co-ordinate and look at whats been done from other firms to test the feasibility of my design choices. but yours is a good tip to start with. didnt really take into consideration about having it blend with wall colours. :) ya i think my colours are pretty consistent. B&W throughout. hahaha!

rondy, why u change the display pic? is that still u? :D

my mom is nice, just very very naggy (repetitive) and very forgetful but dont take my advice of writing thinks tht she wants to remember down onto paper. ok when we're more settled i can bring her over since its so nearby. she gettin old, quite tiring for her to travel round but hope after some rest she's ok. hahaha ya pls prepare muffins so i can psycho her into buying a portable oven so i can bake!!!

Question!

any of uncle's client who is based in woodlands and has ah di as their carpenter? will be grateful if u have pics of his works to show. i hope, pray, keep toes crossed that he is as good as ah wei. if not i think its another session of vomit blood. :D
