guy77 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 i went to jalan besar as i mentioned earlier, only went to adamas and the shop further down. i didnt do much hardcore shopping as we were there quite late. plus we had no knowledge of measurements etc, so when we were approached by the staff and we told them we have no idea about the size, u can imagine the look of disbelief on their faces. i did call uncle but he said just choose what i want and pass it to him and he will get it for me. >;/ a little torn between the two options: 1) pass all model numbers to uncle for him to get it for us and send straight to our place or 2) we buy and arrange it ourselves. growl! we're currently using 2. currently on the market it's mostly 3 i see, hardly see two. if i do get 3, i should be able to cover it to protect and prevent such problems like yours right? uncle also asked me to choose my hob and hood and tell him the model. going to look for the model and tell him. hopefulyl he can get a good price for me. i saw 2 burners in audio house. it is tecno brand
pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 wahahaha when I was buying I didn't bother about the size at all.. I just buy! So I guess I am very lucky that it fits.
aubrey 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 Do the horror thing I did. tongue.gif My mother was mortified as she was shopping with me for the items. Pick up all the individual items and ask for individual discounts for every item first. Then you consolidate your purchases, try and see if you can an odd number. From there, you round it down. Like from $1099, down it to $1000 nett. :x But not many shops has that kind of variety to choose from, different shops carry nicer basins, wc, taps, rain showers. Jalan besar is quite near your place, can drop by with your mum to check it out. biggrin.gif AHAHAHA!! i think she will be shocked with my aggressiveness. but our pockets will benefit! but did u succeed in this strategy? and which shop u did this at? CH? check out already, only briefly saw adamas and poh joo. >.<

aubrey 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) growler Eh? holes? meaning the flame is a little exposed at the bottom? i have a potentially stupid qns.. are these hobs built into the worktop/cabinet? EF is from italy? sounds italian? but ah, brand from italy, but MIC. early? im totally freaking out now. my reno is to start this coming mon and i have not gotten anything. i am panicking. i admit im a control freak and i need to design it properly cos its not easy to rectify mistakes. for the franke sink u have, do u have a sorta small compartment for storing sponges etc? if not where do u put urs? and are most stainless steel? or they claim to be but will rust hence franke is good? is soft closing even important? lol, like "blum" for WC. so whats yr WC brand? guess i better go for "branded" stuff like TOTO huh.. mrspiglet the flat we rented uses claytan WC, my mom just commented that the flush is so weak when we were there shifting stuff. guess i have to strike it off my list now. is your baron one good? no probs so far? yokine9a, familyof4 dunno if it will come in handy tho. in that case, i wonder what ppl do with 4 burners. i saw a rinnai one that looks good on the flyer, its with ceramic glass. any comments on that? guy77 are u asking uncle to buy for u too? im buying tons of stuff which he offered to get for me, dunno if he can manage it. i dont know which is better tho, ask him or i get it myself. you? pinkpetter pet, talking about backsplash i was right but my friend kept insisting its the part where your metal sheet is, the silver one. dunno what to call it!! lol. how come uncle didnt offer to help u buy since he had lesser projects on hand then! u are really lucky, happy go lucky! and my trip to ikea over last weekend got me these pics. i am so sad, accidentally deleted pics of my tiles while i was at LSH!!!! retake them tmr. i really need to cram in more sleep before i starting sleeping on the job. But One of the forummers here who is also an ID explained it in another thread. I believe it was Pierre. Uncle did offer but seeing how *niao* my parents were, we all went shopping together. I didn't want any disputes with uncle over the price, etc. Seems it was a fruitful trip to Ikea!! MmM About that soft closing for WC, I think it's impt... I used to hate it when my cover slams down if it wasn't put properly, etc.

You can actually remove the "head" to check whether there are holes below. The hobs are built above the worktop/cabinet. So if you're looking and their are holes above, any spillage (e.g from soup, porridge, etc) will likely flow down to below your hob -> i.e. cabinet. EF is actually italian but not sure whether MIC ... but anyway, almost 90% of all stuffs are MIC anyway ... For franke sink, there's an option for storing sponge but we didn't choose that design as we need 2 big wash areas. We keep our sponge on a sponge rack mounted on the wall. Soft closing -> individual preference since the soft closing will wear off eventually. However, it helps to reduce the slamming sound .. which can sometimes be annoying. Smallboy 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) You may want to try Royal Franco for WC, sinks and accessories. I find Chuan Heng and Poh Joo not willing to move prices. Royal Franco is a smaller set up which means the boss, Henry makes the decision on the spot to move the prices for you. We check all 3, CH, PJ, Royal Franco.... we choose the same items from the shops. Compare prices. Each of the items were given some discount. But at the end, Royal Franco gave another round of discount. We found it cheaper by $200. Which is a good deal. Moreover, the service at Royal Franco was great. We were confused about fans...... Henry took the time to explain to us and help us choose 1 which is suitable for my weird ceiling. IN the end, I bought heater and fans too from him. :) Yes... Royal Franco may not have the retail space to show you everything, but if you ask "Share me more sinks"...... he is willign to take out from the boxes and show you. Very patient. Check Fondue or PreciousJam blog for the address......... he drew up a map for all 3 places. Very clear. Edited April 29, 2009 by Smallboy
aubrey 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 When bargaining, don't feel shy, it's only that few minutes, savings is substantial, ask and you shall get. I tried that stunt at CH and Hom Tech. It didn't work at Poh Joo, so I didn't get much from them though they are quite nice actually. hahaha ya i will ask them, how, wanna give me discount? dont want ok i go elsewhere. i'll ask around this weekend. hope we have the time though. pet, preciousjam ok i think i can consider the soft closing in that case. hahaha blum for toilets.. can we try the soft closing function in the stores? growler thats useful info. i will try. do u mean that for my hob, there's a cut out for it? that means even if it spills, it wont spill into my cabinet where things are placed right? since its like an indented cut out? am i getting this right? i think i will mount the rack like u mention for sponge. seems to be a better option! i spoke to uncle and he said there's a partition to separate the WM from sink, and its quite high so i can mount it there. smallboy i went to royal fanco once when i was looking for my ceiling fan. i was served by a lady. she is helpful but seems reluctant. she probably thinks i wont buy it from her. blame it on my baby face i guess. i still look like im in my teens. lol. ya this time i will go with my mom so she knows that we're serious. better yet, if we get to meet henry. they dont sell hobs and stuff right? and yes i have the map! so very very helpful! time to go tear down the place! UPDATES! have finally signed on the dotted line with uncle ah soon. i will be updating my first post with regards to all the ppl i met in the process. although i did not sign with them, they are still worth a shot if u are looking for friendly IDs who dont frown upon and disappear at a budget of $20k. back to uncle ah soon, we are all set to start on Monday, 4th May. he's given us a better timeline to work with now, so we have more time to look around for the necessary stuff for our kitchen. our final quote was $23k with more stuff thrown in for me! now, FOC blum runners unless i am doing a lot. yet to be confirmed at this stage, have to speak to jason first to conceptualise the kitchen. he is also throwing in 15M oven switch for me FOC (he previously quoted $120 for that) & also FOC the T5 lights for me. So nice of him! on top of the FOC he also rounded the figures off for me to $23k. he did say he can give me a rebate of $400 since we rented the house next door and he can work in an empty house and work can be complete in a faster and convenient way. dunno how that will go. all in all, very pleased with him, no complaints. pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 Good that you're happy with him. He really deserves the break then. hehe Anyways you can test the soft-closing in the store. However when the item is delivered and not installed yet, you can't. It will only work until it is installed.
mrspiglet 2 Report post Posted April 30, 2009 gd for u aubrey! finally signed on the dotted line, now u can look forward to the start... n then to shifting back to a newly renovated old house! I think Uncle's really nice to throw in BLUM for u. So envy... but i'm happy with my soft close since uncle threw in other FOCs for my miserable reno budget too, cannot be so picky liao. Anyway i realised i forgot to reply u on the WC thingy. Baron's flushing is quite ok, its the 1-pc package i bought at the Geylang shop recommended by Pinkpetter. Clayton half-flush is really weak, full flush still ok. As for soft close, i realised i dun really like it now that my Baron WC has it. Maybe becos i like to lift up the seat to jetspray the underneath of the cover every night, so its quite irritating for me when i have to 'wait' for the seat to slowly come back down. Cut out is different. What i meant was that you should try to remove the burner head and check whether there are holes underneath. If there are, you can probably see your piping for gas/ gas cylinder. That's what i'm referring to. Tecno hobs cannot remove the burner head (duno why) ... so it's very difficult to clean. Turbo hobs have holes underneath the burner heads. So far, only EF and Indesit hobs don't have holes ... Your layout is probably a L-shape (like Native02). Mine's straight. Don't need to mount the rack too high up, just above the sink will do.
