Anyone Can Advise On "an" Guanyin?

Recommended Posts

hihi, i intend to "an" a Guanyin in my home...the following are my queries:

1) Choose a Guanyin statue. Some friends tell me choose "shun yan" at 1st sight, but the problem is there are reali so many in a shop (I only go to the shop beside shi ma lu guanyin temple before), and I am reali quite confused wat is impt to hav a nice and complete statue. Especially the eyes. Should I choose those with eyes looking down or looking far??? Which is good?

2) The Date to "An". After buying the statue,we bring home and place on the altar table with wrapping on the statue. Then after that, we choose another good date for KAI KUANG? Please also advise the KAI KUANG procedures? Bring to temple or ??

3) I intend to customise my altar table, so is it a MUST to get rosewood? or can just same wood like our wardrobe? C from some other forum that there should not be any drawers under the statue cos cnt too many movements? Is it true?

Anyone who has experience in these, please advise.. thks so much!!

hihi

I think I can only answer question 3.

10thJan2.jpg

Here's our new altar. Can use the same wood and laminate. BUT the drawer below must be light so that it doesn't vibrate the altar too much. ALSO the measurements of the altar very very important. Only certain measurements can. I forgot what the measurements of mine are.

But if you want to know.. just go to those altar shops next to GUanYin Temple and pick up their leaflets for altar... you can follow their measurements for the top. :)

Then if you're making it suspended like mine... the height at which you place is important. CANNOT place too high. My mom says that have to place at head level. Ours is placed at 1530mm (measurement from the fengshui ruler).

Your Important questions.. I have to wait until tonight then ask my mom. but roughly it's like this..

When they bought the statue AGES ago, they brought her to KAI YAN right away and covered her with a cloth and carried her with both hands ... all the way back home. meaning in the car my mom was carrying her when my dad drove.

When we moved here, we asked the FS master (a simple guy) for an auspicious date AND TIME... to bring her here. She had to move in before we move in. Apparently new things can come in before she came in but old things must wait until she come in then can.

When she came in, they bought all her things brand new and gave her some offerings and played music for her 24 hours.

I'll ask for more details tonight ok? :)

OH YA! Becos the red electric candle we used to have uses a lot of electricity, we decided to buy a spotlight to shine on her from above as you can see in the picture. The light is LED so saves electricity. the light CANNOT be switched off so the switch for this light is under the altar so that no one will accidentally switch off.

Most important is a couple must agree on the same Guanyin statue.. One that both are comfortable with....

2) The Date to "An". After buying the statue,we bring home and place on the altar table with wrapping on the statue. Then after that, we choose another good date for KAI KUANG? Please also advise the KAI KUANG procedures? Bring to temple or ??

If you buy from Rochor centre or opposite OG, u can bring the guanyin statue to the Waterloo temple for Kai Guang.

Just bring to the counter, right infront of the 1000 hands/eyes guanyin statue. u just ask anyone and i believe an old lady will do it for you..

And remember to get an angpow to collect some joss ash home for your joss pot.

As for the date to "An", i chose a guanyin Dan (Birthday) to do it... got a monk to invite my guanyin into my home...

3) I intend to customise my altar table, so is it a MUST to get rosewood? or can just same wood like our wardrobe? C from some other forum that there should not be any drawers under the statue cos cnt too many movements? Is it true?

You can ask the shop that sell altar for the measurement. They will be happy to tell you. Or best if you buy the Guanyin form the same shop.

Anyone who has experience in these, please advise.. thks so much!!
