Hi,

We are wondering- what if we hack existing cabinets that had been on the top and we didnt want it so we have to replace it with tiles right? What if we didnt want any tiles and leave it as walls-will that be ugly? The whole kitchen wall are covered with tiles-if we didnt replace, it will be half tile and half walls-do u think it will turn out funny? Need advice ... have anyone of u here done that before? :disturb:;)

Some old kitchens only do 1/2 wall tiles. Or if you don't want to do tiles, can consider doing what pinkpetter did with her kitchen. She didn't have top cabinets, and painted the walls. To protect the walls, she had a s/s backing. Very nice, and save alot on the tiles. :)

Tada my kitchen.

My old tiles are still there.. but they are all the way to the ceiling. My contractor cement screeded over the tiles and painted them like walls. Then placed the SS plate over. :)

He ever suggested have half-tiled walls but I don't like having the grooves inbetween the tiles so I went for walls.

I didn't really understand your last post. hehe

If you don't like having S/S backing then leave it as it is, just paint wash and wear so that you can wipe when you need. and your walls will probably need a paint job every couple of years.

Otherwise the other option is to have glass backing.. but oil can seep behind the glass and you can see the oil spots through the glass. :)

Half tiled walls is also ok... I've had IDs suggest that to me before also...

The stainless steel very big, is it one piece or few pieces joined together?

looks like 2 piece. join line is at the socket there. One big square + one long horizontal rectangle pieces.
