Kitchen: Overlay Tiles And Plastering Walls

I would like to change the tiles of the default HDB kitchen (ceramic floor and glossy ceramic wall tiles).

The standard method is to hack and re-lay tiles.

However, I understand that there is an option to overlay the floor tiles and plaster the wall without hacking.

Is it possible and advisable?

70% of my kitchen will be covered by cabinets and backsplash, leaving only one and half wall.

are there any other considerations that I have missed out?
